I will always treasure the time spent with Ms. Ruby. I shall also remember the laughter we shared. Moreover, I recall the lesson learned from observing her day-to-day living. Ms. Ruby exhibited living life to the full rather than succumbing to the challenges it presents. On those days when her rheumatoid arthritis was sending pain to her various joints, when she could, she got up, got dressed, styled that beautiful hair and lived. One day, I actually told her how she inspired me to keep moving even in the face of adversity. Her response to me was something to the effect of, ‘Patricia, I could let my arthritis get the best of me, but as long as I can keep moving, that is what I am going to do.’ Ms. Ruby, very much like my own mother, showed me how to triumph even in the face of trials and tribulations. Thank you for teaching by example. Actions really do speak louder than words. I am wealthier having known you, Ms. Ruby.
