Debbie was truly someone to be loved. What you saw was what you got with her. She was real and didn't pretend to be someone else. We loved Debbie. She was a sister of our Discipleship class (The GIRLS) which she appropriately named because we were just that God's Idea of Real Loving Sisters. Out chain has been broken, but Debbie will always be one of the GIRLS. We miss you Debbie. Rest from your labor.

I offer my sincerest condolences to Reggie, Terry and all of the family of Yvette DeBorah Brown and to all of her family at Morgan State University and New Psalmist Baptist Church. I know how much her sudden and unexpected departure has left us all shocked and reeling with a sense of indescribable loss.
Ms. Brown was an administrative assistant in the College of Liberal Arts at Morgan for a great number of years during my tenure as Dean, and she continued in that capacity after my departure from that office in 2010 and beyond, to the time of her transition. When I was Dean, those who entered the office were always greeted with her warm and charming smile, and she always made visitors, especially students, feel welcome and appreciated. She was like a mother figure to so many of them, especially those from New York, and she never failed the be their advocate when they needed something from the Dean’s Office. During the thirty-plus years that I knew and worked with her (during and after my retirement as Dean), she was always willing to give her best effort to any assigned task, and she went out of her way to promote a feeling of family among the administrators, staff and student workers in our office. Indeed, I can say that I felt that she was not only professional family, but also a friend.
I am comforted to know—and I would advise her family and friends—that the presence of her absence does not mean the absence of her presence in our lives. She will live with us forever through our fond and enduring memories of the great times that we had together as colleagues and friends. So, now, let us not grieve our loss. Let us, instead, celebrate what we have gained during her presence in our lives.
