Those we love don't go away; they walk beside us every day. I will miss the countless conversations and all the laughter we shared. I loved your witticisms, when I least expect it, you would say a good one. I find comfort in all the memories we shared, and the stories I can share about my wonderful friend/family. Although, you only met my son, who you started calling your son, when you often asked about him and his girlfriend's, my family knew who he was, I spoke of Phil all the time. I recall the time; I drove him to one of his friend's parties, he didn't want to drive. So, I was like no problem, I soon realized why. Phil, had me driving down some whinny dark, and I mean dark creepy roads. I was like, where does this friend live in the woods...lol. We finally got to the person's home; I was too damn nervous to even have a drink. I thought to myself, one miss step driving back and we will be in a ditch.... lol. Phil had a great time of course; he was always the life of the party. I got him back home safely, and he told me; when I'm unable to drive, you will be my chauffeur. I told him no problem. You will be truly missed, and I love you.
My condolences, to the Payne family. May God continue to give you all strength.

Phil you will be truly missed.
I met you 53 years ago in Ansbach, Germany., had no idea you would become my father-in-law 40 years later.
In all those years, you never did get my name right, you called me Janice instead of Janet, finally i accept that
as far you were concerned my name was Janice.
Rest in Peace Phill until we met again.

Me and Phil had the best times! He stayed cracking on people that walked bye at the pub. There was nooooo limit to the things he said. All of the laughter and fun I couldn’t hardly fathom. Phil you are and will forever remain my friend, my family….My GUY!!! Words will never explain how much I’m truly gonna miss you and all the beautiful cards you sent me. Phil was the friend you could always count on to brighten your spirit. He always had something witty to say to make you smile or a positive spin to take on a tough situation. Phil loved people and spread joy in every interaction he had. Always the photographer in the room, and the next time you saw him he would have the photos printed in an envelope ready for you. Now those photos can be cherished and act as a reminder of my old friend who was kind, funny, and always reinforcing that life is short and meant to be enjoyed. My condolences to his family. Rest In Peace Phil, I know you’re happy to be reunited with the love of your life ❤️

Mr. Phil, you will be truly missed. Your conversations, your stories and your humor. You always had a smile on your face! That was something I always looked forward seeing when I would come to the "Pub". It has been my pleasure meeting and getting to know you. Heaven has been waiting for you to share your stories and kindness. May you rest in peace always!!

Words cannot express the enormous impact Phil had on my life and the lives of everyone he met. He was witty, generous, loving, and gracious. Phil always loved life and he shared this feeling with others. No matter what was going on, Phil had any incredible ability to see the positive. He always told me not to fret. And Phil accepted people for who they were. I always felt the joy whenever I sat at his table at CVP. My heart goes out to Phil's family and friends. I miss him dearly. ❤️

After my husband died my daughter and I went to the Charles Village pub on Sunday evening so that she could watch ice hockey. Initially she went on her own, and then she came back and told me to come with her because she met this wonderful older gentleman who was so much fun. That gentleman was Phil. He was a good friend to both of us and he helped me learn how to open my heart and trust again. There’s very few people in this world who you can say that about. He was always gentle and welcoming and encouraging and he provided me with a safe space to grieve for the man who I loved and had lost, while healing at the same time while he dragged back back into world without my husband. He was one of few people who understood what that means, and took the time to help me achieve it. I will always miss the safety of knowing that Phil was there if I ever needed to call or if I needed somewhere to go, or just someone to talk to. He truly one of life‘s gifts. God bless you. Rest In Peace my friend.
