Sharon Marie Anderson
April 21, 1957 — July 14, 2024
Sharon Marie Anderson, a devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend who loved family get-togethers, baking and traveling, transitioned peacefully on July 14, 2024, after a long illness. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, on April 21, 1957, Sharon was the eldest of six children of Dr. Twidlyn Anderson and Helen Lee Anderson-Cokley. She was raised in Catonsville and lived in Ellicott City, Maryland, for most of her adult life.
As a teen, Sharon accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized at Morning Star Baptist Church on Roberts Avenue in Catonsville. She served on the junior usher board and sang on the youth choir.
Sharon was educated in Baltimore County Public Schools, where she excelled academically. She did especially well in violin, French and math, and competed on the track and field team. Sharon graduated from Catonsville Senior High in 1975, and headed to Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to major in commerce and engineering.
After four years in Philly, Sharon returned to the Baltimore area and in 1981 began her professional career at Coppin State College (now Coppin State University). During her tenure there, she held positions as an accountant and financial services supervisor. Ultimately, while continuing to work full time, she earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Baltimore. Sharon retired as assistant controller in 2016 after almost 35 years at Coppin.
In retirement, she found more time for her greatest passion—traveling. Among her most memorable destinations over the years were Belize, Canada, France, Grenada, Jamaica and Japan. She also enjoyed cruises to the Caribbean, and skiing at some of the top ski resorts around the country.
A quiet person, Sharon cherished simple pleasures like taking walks, relaxing at the beach and reading high fantasy novels like "The Wheel of Time" and "Game of Thrones." She enjoyed sewing custom drapes, gardening and perfecting her to-die-for peach cobbler and lemon bundt cake.
Sharon leaves to mourn her mother Helen Anderson-Cokley, sisters Janet Anderson and Beverly Anderson, brothers Philip Anderson, John (Allison) Anderson and David (Monique) Anderson, nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. She is predeceased by her father Twidlyn Anderson and stepfather Theodore Cokley.
Sharon will be lovingly remembered as quirky, generous and caring. She will be sorely missed but not forgotten.
