Obituary of William Garrett

William Garrett, age 95, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2024. Born in Baltimore City on July 28, 1928, to the late Edward and Beatrice Garrett. William attened Baltimore City Public Schools. He married Margaret Johnson in 1949 and had three children - Sylvia, Ronald and Kevan. He was a friendly, loving, kind and devoted husband and father. William was a long time member of The Episcopal Church of St. Mary the Virgin. Through the years, he served as Sr. Warden of the Vestry; served on the Board of the church's apartments - St. Stephen Courts Apartments and also as property manager. He went to work for automobile maker General Motors as an assembly-line worker and retired after 35 years. He was a proud member of the Union, United Auto Workers (UAW) Local 239. In 1971-1990, he and his wife founded the first African American full-service travel agency in Baltimore City - Galaxy Travel LTD. The agency specialized in commercial, individual and special travel markets business. He traveled within the United States, and the world by bus, train, plane and cruise ships to Canada, Panama, Europe, South America, the Caribbean and Africa. He enjoyed watching the Orioles and the Baltimore Ravens and keeping current with National, State and local news. William was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; son, Ronald; granddaughter, NIcole and grandson, Keith. William leaves to cherish his memory: daughter, Sylvia; son, Kevan, granddaughter, KiRa and a host of relatives and friends.
