Obituary of Alvin L. Sturtevant
ALVIN STURTEVANT HIS STORY: A MAN TO REMEMBER
Alvin Sturtevant was born in Baltimore, Maryland on July 11, 1943 to Bernard Snr. And Susie Sturtevant. Alvin graduated from the esteemed Frederick Douglass High School. After finishing high school, Alvin enlisted into the United States Of America Department Of The Army. He was stationed in Germany for his entire tour. While enlisted, he received a number of prestigious awards. Alvin was honorably discharged In 1967. After departing from The Army, Alvin started his career at Leaseway Anchor Motor Freight as a rail worker. After 35 years of service, he retired.
In 1968 Alvin asked Laureen Silver to marry him. They were married on June 16, 1968. To this union two children were born, Alvin Sturtevant Jr. And Sherrie Sturtevant. Alvin also gained a bonus daughter that he treated as his own Letitia Gholson. Post retirement Alvin acquired many hobbies such as; landscaping, playing and watching his grandchildren. He got many compliments on how beautiful and tastefully landscaped his front yard appeared. Alvin had many hobbies after retirement; however his favorite hobby was becoming a "MASTER MECHANIC." If you walked at the top of McCabe Avenue any given day you would surely see him in the driveway working under a car. Everyone in the family and in the neighborhood brought their cars to Alvin to be repaired. When his health failed and he was unable to continue to work on cars, you would see him instructing his son Boo Boo and his nephew Van from the porch on how to do car repairs and maintenance.
During Alvin's last days he enjoyed watching game shows with the love of his life Laureen. He also enjoyed listening to music and joking with his kids, grandkids and family members. Alvin entered into eternal rest on April 15, 2024. Alvin was preceded in death by his father, Bernard Sturtevant Snr. And his mother Susie Sturtevant.
He leaves to cherish his most memorable memories his devoted wife of 55 years, Laureen Sturtevant; three children, Letitia Gholson(Michael), Alvin Sturtevant Jr., Sherrie Sturtevant; six grandsons, Maurice Sturtevant Snr., Alvin Sturtevant III (Maria), Mekhi Sturtevant, Devon Dates, Michael Coleman Jr. And Jerrel Coleman; one granddaughter, Lakesha Edwards (Tavon); four great granddaughters, Zjoure Sturtevant, Taylor Sturtevant, Mila Sturtevant and Valentina Sturtevant; three great grandsons; Jaden Edwards, Maurice Sturtevant Jr. And Cayden Sturtevant; Four siblings proceeded him in death; Kathleen Sturtevant, Levi Wood, Edna Sturtevant, Lewis Sturtevant, William Sturtevant; one living sister, Carolyn Williams; two living brothers, Bernard Sturtevant Jr., Robert Sturtevant (Joan); one sister-in-law, Hazel Williams (Leon); three brother in laws, Michael Silver, Oliver Silver, Walter Whitaker(deceased)(Anna). He also leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Special thank you to his devoted nephew Van Sturtevant.
