Obituary of Bobby L. Bennett

Bobby Lee Bennett was born in Sumter County, SC on September 22, 1941 to the late Mr. Wesley and Mrs. Rosa Bennett. He was the youngest of 12 siblings.He was married for 31 years to the late Julia Mae Hastie Bennett also from Sumter, SC before her transition in 2001. Together they worked and raised two daughters in Baltimore, MD. He received his wings on Thursday, December 28, 2023. He received his education in the public school system of Sumter County. Bobby served 6 years in the United States Army before his honorable discharge in 1966. He was awarded disabled veteran status after discharge recognizing injuries sustained while serving on active duty. He worked in transportation and delivery for the State of Maryland and retired after 30 years of employment. He was a member of Jericho Baptist Church of Christ renamed Fresh Oil Church and Ministries under Pastor Spriggs. He was ordained as a deacon and served faithfully as a deacon until illness made it difficult for him to attend. Bobby was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Julia Mae Hastie Bennett, his parents, Wesley & Rosa Bennett, six brothers: Timothy Bennett, Tommy Bennett, William Bennett, Sylvester Bennett, James Bennett, and Neal Bennett; five sisters: Tisha Bennett Washington, Mable Bennett Owens, Katie Bennett Osorio, Elease Bennett Hastie, and Dorothy Bennett Myers. Bobby leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters, Terry Sylwanda Bennett Sears of Houston, TX, Berita Rochella Bennett Sherman and son-in-law Rodney Meres Sherman of Houston, TX, one granddaughter, Bria Michelle Sherman of Houston, TX, one sister-in-law, Janie Bennett of Baltimore, MD, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends, that are grieved by his passing.
