Obituary of Vera Virginia Frost

Vera V. Frost, 97, was born February 23,1926, to the union of Arthur and Harriet (Hattie) Watkins in Baltimore, MD. The matriarch of our family passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning November 14, 2023, with her loved ones by her side as she transitioned. She is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Hattie Watkins, sister Carole Coleman [brother-in-law Clifton], sister Eloise Moses, brothers Ralph Watkins Sr., and Gordan Watkins, nephew Ralph Watkins Jr., nephew Warren Watkins, and niece Wanda Ellis. Vera was a product of the Baltimore City public school system where she graduated from Frederick Douglass High School. She was very articulate, witty, and was an excellent speaker. She was an advent reader and enjoyed all types of novels but loved a good murder mystery. She was an incredible scrabble player and in her later years she also enjoyed crossword puzzles and word searches which kept her sharp as a tack. But her true passion was crocheting, her natural talent was astonishing. She loved to make beautiful garments for her family and friends Vera was employed at The Mart (321 W. Lexington Street) in downtown Baltimore, MD. She was a hard worker and wore multiple hats to assist in the day-to-day operations of the business. She was a staple of the retail store for many years and retired after over 30 years of employment. Although Vera never got a driver's license, that did not stop her from getting around town. If there was a bus route she was on the go. She was often seen around town on the bus line with her shopping bags in tow. Vera leaves to mourn and cherish her memories her daughter Gwendolyn E. Collins, granddaughter Deborah C. Sampson, grandson-in-law Joe P. Sampson, great-granddaughter DominiQue C. Sampson, great-grandson Jordan P. Sampson, nieces; Michelle Coleman, Dora Moses, Stephanie Nance, nephew Dwight Coleman, cousins and a host of family and friends.
