Grace Edwards

Obituary of Grace Evangeline Edwards

Our beloved Grace Evangeline Edwards of Charlotte, NC departed this life on July 27, 2023, at Inova hospital in Fairfax, Virginia. Grace was born at home in St. George's, Grenada on January 22, 1939. She was the fourth child of the late Kenneth Sylvester and Una Campbell. She had nine siblings, Keith, Carlyle, Deighton, George, Joseph, Jacquelyn, John, Paul and Therese. Grace was educated in the school system of the British West Indies. She attended Morris School and St George's Government School. She graduated from The Anglican High School of St. George's. Upon completion of her education in Grenada, Grace worked at Barclay's Bank, The National Employee Mutual Insurance Company, a subsidiary of Lloyds of London, and at Central Sales Agency of Grenada. In Grenada, she became a mother to her first child, Richard. Grace's vocation was nursing, and she immigrated to the United Kingdom where she earned her General Nursing degree from St. Andrew's Hospital in London. During her time in London, she married her loving husband, Codrington Lennox Luke Edwards, where they welcomed two daughters, Patricia and Lisa. The family moved to Baltimore, Maryland in 1970, where Grace began her United States nursing career. Grace worked as a registered nurse, charge nurse, travel nurse, director of nursing, and director of quality control at various hospitals and nursing homes. Grace and Lennox brought three more children into the world in Baltimore, Zarina, Alison, and David, and the family of eight enjoyed their time playing at home, going on picnics, watching television, cooking and laughing together. Once the nest emptied, Grace and Lennox retired and moved to Charlotte, NC in 2007 where they resided together until Lennox's passing in 2022 and she alone until her own demise. Grace enjoyed frequently spending time with her daughter and her family who lived close by in South Carolina, and she equally enjoyed when her other children and grandchildren made their visits from Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia to her happy home or called her on the phone for regular, long chats. Grace Edwards will be missed by everyone. She leaves to mourn: Her children, Richard (Lynthia), Patricia (Mark), Lisa (Jeff), Zarina, Alison, and David (Jasmin), her grandchildren, Rueben, Nkechi, Nathan, Christopher, Naomi (Griffin), Simone, Claire, Dane, Jha'Neal, Kenya, Dachae, India, Brielle, and David Jr. , her siblings and siblings-in-law, Keith (Grace), Celeste, Deighton (Heather), George (Charlene), Zinna, Jacquelyn, John (Margaret), Paul, and Ponti. Grace is also missed by many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. At the time of her death, Grace was eagerly awaiting the birth of her great-grandson. Grace loved reality TV and politics, and politics, and more politics, but she would cast those things aside to talk on the phone or spend time with the people she loved. Her journey with us who remain is over, and she will never be forgotten by those upon whom she shined her light. Grace was truly loved. The most meaningful thing to Grace as we carry on in life would be for us all to keep our families close and dear…and vote Democrat.
