Obituary of Gladys Louise Johnson

Obituary Gladys Louise Mangum Johnson was born on October 27, 1932, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina to the late Levurse Mangum and Esther King Mangum. She was the fourth child of this union; had two sisters, Lillie and Lucy, and one brother, Joe, all of whom preceded her in death. Gladys moved with her family to Turner Station, MD in the 1950's where they resided in the Sollers Homes. Her early Christian life began there at Community Baptist Church where her father was a Deacon. Gladys' church membership changed several times over the years ending at Epworth United Methodist Chapel. An active and dedicated member of the church until her health began to fail, Gladys was a Lay Minister and a member of the United Methodist Women. Louise, as she was frequently called by her family, received her education from the Baltimore City School System though she lived in Baltimore County. She could not attend the local high school, was forced to attend Douglas High School and would go on to attend Cortez Peters Business School and Coppin State University. Gladys was joined in matrimony to Henry C. Johnson, Sr. (deceased) and from their marriage, four children were born, Ronald, Karen, David and Lisa. Employed by the Social Security Administration for many years, she received countless awards and retired in 1989. Gladys was a member of the Calvary Chapter No. 32, Order of the Eastern Star and was Past Assistant Recordress of the Daughters, Jerusalem Court No. 1. She loved to travel and was always ready when her beloved Henry said, "let's go!" Gladys also enjoyed cooking, shopping, music, family, friends and church members. Gladys Louise Mangum Johnson departed this life on July 3rd. Gladys 'memory will be forever cherished by her children Ronald (Renee), Karen (Keith), David (Niambi) and Lisa (Stan); 8 grandchildren; Keisha Clash (Anthony), Jasmine Howard, Sydney Howard, Zion Simmons, Stephanie Jones-Davis, Darlene Johnson, Brittany Johnson, and Ciara Chapman; 3 great grandchildren Kairo Clash, Malachi Clash and William Davis; 2 sisters-in-law, Ernestyne Johnson and Rosalie Johnson; and a host of family members, church family and friends.
