Remembering a Good Friend and Mentor
It's been a little while since he went home on April 12th, but I still find myself waiting for his call and his kind voice. Emanuel and I had the privilege of being friends with him for over 33 years - he was a true blessing in our lives. Pastor Lawton and Sis. Fran were the ones who mentored us through our married life, and we will always be grateful.
But this good man was more than just a pastor and a mentor - he was an advisor and supporter for my business as well. Back when I was only making $800 a month (if that!), he agreed to be part of my advisory committee and was always willing to give me advice and pray for me. He truly cared and wanted to see me succeed.
It wasn't just me he cared for, either. Our whole family loved him. I'll never forget something he said about obstacles and stepping stones: "The difference between an obstacle and a stepping stone is the manner in which you approach it." Those wise words have stayed with me.
So today, I just want to say thank you. Thank you for being our pastor and our friend. You will always be missed, but never forgotten.
