Obituary of Arthur Green

Arthur Green, the youngest son of the late Alice "Hookie" Green and devoted husband to the late Vernice Green, was born on October 24, 1952. He departed this earth on March 24, 2023. He was raised by his grandparents, the late Charles and Lucy Green. They were affectionately known as Mama and Pop Charles. Arthur was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System. Arthur was introduced to Jesus at a young age. He became a member of Wayman A.M.E. Church and began working there. By doing so, Arthur realized that God had a special calling on his life. Arthur started his first gospel group (The Saint James Specials) with relatives and friends at St. James Holiness Church. Arthur sang with many choirs and groups. He was a backup singer to "Murna Summers." He met a special friend - Doris Savoy - while singing with the famous "Baltimore's Echoes Singers." He played for many prestigious affairs and church programs as a pianist, organist, and vocalist. He has served as the Minister of Music for many churches, including Mount Calvary Baptist Church, First Baptist Church, Rising Sun Baptist Church, Bethany Baptist Church, and Freewill Baptist Church. His most recent appointment was as choir director at Jerusalem Baptist Church. Arthur was always an eager and dependable presence at family events. His gift of music has ushered us through many celebrations and sorrows. He was an excellent chef and worked at various hotels and restaurants. Those who knew him from Royal Farms called him King Arthur. If you let him tell it, he was the only person in Baltimore City that could make cod fish cakes and pig feet! Arthur leaves to cherish his memory: his two sons, Terence Green (Aleta) and Antwan Green (Victoria); one daughter, Kasha White; three sisters, Christine Jones, Sharon Swain, and Cynthia Barlow; two brothers, Larry Green, and Leon Green; three sisters-in-law, Georgetta Green, Debra Green, and Connie Green; one brother-in-law, Shelton Barlow; and a host of relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence Green, and Emory Green; one brother-in-law, Coy Jones; and one sister-in-law, Bertha Green. A viewing for Mr. Green will be held on Friday, April 21, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Vaughn Greene Funeral Services, 8728 Liberty Road, Randallstown, MD 21133. On Saturday, April 22, 2023, a homegoing celebration for Mr. Arthur Green will be held at the Vaughn Greene Chapel at Randallstown, 8728 Liberty Road, where the family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. with services to follow. The interment services will be held at Druid Ridge Cemetery immediately following the homegoing service.
