Joey and family please accept my heart felt condolences on the passing of your Mom, Mrs. Vera. I will always remember her quiet grace and presence. I will always be grateful for her getting out of bed in the early hours of the morning to chauffeur the whole gang of us safely home after dancing the night away at club Fantasy! To the Family of Mrs. Vera Evans,
Mrs. Evans was a wonderful teacher and excellent educator to me and many other former students. I had the honor of being in her English Honors in the 10th grade at Edmondson Westside High School. She selected me to be in her class. I wasn't sure why in the beginning but she said I needed a challenge and I took her challenge. It was a small class due to it being an honors course but she expected everyone to rise to the challenge. We were able to dive into a lot black texts including Native Son and Black Boy. She was impressed with me because I already had read them in middle school and had previous knowledge of Richard Wright. She still required me to read them again! Mrs. Evans gave us skills that we didn't realize we needed at the time, skills that I still use today. She was humble, very well liked and respected. She did not play! haha! She also held us to a high standard and I am grateful for that opportunity to have her as my teacher.
Thank you for sharing her with us and may your hearts be healed during this time of bereavement.
