Obituary of Mary Jeanette Brooks

Mary Jeannette Brooks, daughter of the late William and Josephine Palmer, was born on March 10,1933 in Baltimore, Maryland. She departed this life on January 28,2023 after a lengthy illness. She received her early education at St. Peter Claver Catholic School, graduating in June 1946. She attended St. Francis Academy graduating with her high school diploma in June 1950. After high school, she was employed at Johns Hopkins Hospital. She attended Catonsville Community College where she received a certificate for the completion of the Care Of The Aging Patient program in 1974. She was then employed at Sinai Hospital as a Nurses Aide until retiring in 1996. She married the late Vincent J. Brooks, Sr. on October 20,1951 and out of this union four children were born. Her eldest son, Vincent J. Brooks, Jr., preceded her in death. One of her favorite things to do was to watch the daily soap operas, The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful. She enjoyed bus trips to various casinos with her sister Shirley Veney, who preceded her in death. She loved to celebrate the accomplishments of her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She never missed an opportunity to be there on special days. She read The Baltimore Sun newspaper daily and completed the JUMBLE puzzle located inside for fun. She was an avid lover of BINGO and would end her evenings playing her lottery scratch- offs. She regularly attended mass on Saturdays until the pandemic, then she attended via YouTube. Always entering contests for fun, in March 2006, she won the ABC2's Watch Wheel and Win Sweepstakes. The grand prize was a trip for two to be on the Wheel of Fortune. She was excited to be going on her first airplane ride, and was accompanied by her sister Theresa Monk. She leaves to mourn: three children, Donna Brooks- Moyd, Wendell Brooks, and Darlene Brooks; a daughter-in-law Jasmine Brooks; five grandchildren, Angela, Destiny, Darius, Dominique, and Camiryn; six great-grandchildren, Diondre, Aryanna, Darrell, Cameron, Brielle and Dayvon; two sisters, Theresa Monk and Audrey Towns; and a host of nieces, nephews, dear friends and other relatives.
