Obituary of Eva Lokeman Bowling Walters
Eva Lokeman Bowling Walters was born on May 2, 1930, to the late Edna and Clarence Lokeman. She was the tenth child; she was known as "the baby girl." Eva grew up in a loving Christian home where her parents raised their three sons, eight daughters, and two grandchildren from Ellamont Street to Calhoun Street. Eva often reminisced, saying, "If the walls on Calhoun Street could talk."
Eva worked at Bankert Restaurant with many of her siblings as a teenager. She had various jobs. In 1971, she became employed at Baltimore City Public Schools as a Cafeteria manager until she retired in 1992.
Eva Lokemand Bowling Walters was a proud alumnus of Frederick Douglas High School, class of 1948. She attended several class reunions and was blessed to attend her 70th class reunion in June 2018.
After graduating from high school, Eva met and fell in love with James Bowling. Eva and James married in 1954. Eva formed a loving bond from this union with her bonus son, James (Jim), Jr. On December 5, 1955, they gave birth to their daughter Vicky Lynn. She also had another bonus son, Kevin Butler, and a bonus daughter, Sarvilla. Her second daughter, Sabrina, arrived in 1969. After this union, James and Eva continued their spiritual walk at Ames United Methodist Church with their loving Bowling family.
At Ames Church, she was always willing to serve where needed, and serving the Lord, was something she cherished. While serving in her ministries, Eva became friends with William "Penney" Walters, who preceded her in death. A beautiful, loving courtship began, and they married on December 28, 1972. Through this marriage, Eva took on another bonus son, Rodney Walters.
Eva remained on 25th Street for over 60 years until she moved in with her daughter, Sabrina, in 2017. She truly loved spending time with her family (Sabrina, Troy, Brittany, Cache, and Aniyah). She loved going on weekly car rides with Troy.
Besides her undying dedication to her family, Eva loved to travel. She visited Spain, Florida, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, St. Martin, California, New Orleans, Atlanta, and Mississippi.
She truly enjoyed spending time with her siblings, other family members, and friends on numerous and different occasions. She especially loved the annual pre-Thanksgiving dinners, which are a huge tradition for our family. She tried to be the first one there and the last to leave.
Her family and friends will sorely miss her daily "just checking on you" calls. She faithfully called her sisters, nieces, and Vicky's sister circle of friends. Our dear Eva had her last outing on December 25, 2022, with her sisters, Mary and Doris.
Eva was preceded in death by her first husband, James; her second husband, William; daughter, Vicky; bonus children, Sarvilla and Kevin; her siblings, Clarence, Frances, Viola, Walter, Alice, Edna, Lillian, and Carrol.
On the afternoon of Thursday, January 5, 2023, God looked down upon the earth and called his Baby Girl, Eva, into his heavenly home. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 am, Saturday, January 21, 2023, in the chapel at Arbutus Memorial Park, 1101 Sulphur Spring Road, Baltimore, MD 21227.
