Obituary of Shih Hsi

Shih Ming Hsi, he was known as Ming to his friends, died from mesothelioma on January 5, 2023. He was 94 years old. He is survived by his wife, Pearl Chow Hsi, and his children, Peter, Alice (Michael), grandchildren Nathaniel, and Jonathan (Undram). He is also survived by 2 brothers, Shih Guang, Shih Hong and 3 sisters, Ping Ping, Juan Juan, and Ran Ran, and many nieces and nephews and their families. He is also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Qi Ming, Xin Xin and his parents, father, Jun Ping Hsi, and mother, Han Ying (Zhang). He was born in Shanghai, China on February 15, 1928. Due to the war in 1948, he fled to Taiwan to finish his studies to become a merchant marine. In April 30, 1962, he married Pearl and started a family. In 1968, the family moved to Brazil, and several years later immigrated to the United States where Ming continued his merchant marine career, and where he eventually retired from Bethlehem Steel in the 1980s. He enjoyed attending church, working in the garden, and especially spending time with his grandchildren.
