Obituary of Alice Cecelia Hairston

Alice Cecelia Hairston, daughter of the late Joseph Mitchell and Cecelia Armstrong Mitchell, was born on December 1, 1926 on a Wednesday at Johns Hopkins Hospital. She departed this Earthly life at home on November 18, 2022, after a lengthy illness. Alice was 95 years old, just 13 days short of her 96th birthday. She was the youngest of three sisters, Margaret Keck and Elizabeth Locke (who both preceded her in death). Alice worked at the Hecht Company, running the elevator for four years. She later became an L. P. N. She married the late Cornelius Hairston, Jr. on February 7, 1949. Their blended family consisted of William Goldman, Dorothy McPhereson, Gloria Anderson (both daughters preceding her in death), Cornelius Hairston III, Douglas Hairston and Rodney Hairston. Alice attended St. Mary of the Assumption for many years. She was a devoted Catholic. She participated in various community organizations; The Friendship Club, The Senior Network, Action in Maturity and The Resident Association at Woodbourne Woods. She enjoyed going on trips, bingo, casinos, crocheting, knitting, watching TV, football and computer games. She loved her Faith and her Family. She always looked forward to the holidays. A memorial service will be held 11 am, Tuesday, November 29, 2022, in the chapel at Vaughn Greene Funeral Services, 4905 York Road, Baltimore, MD 21212. The family will receive friends at 10:30 am.
