Obituary of Brenda Carol Murel Willoughby

Brenda Willoughby was born on July 29, 1944 to her parents Reverend Hammond Fews Sr. and Ella Parsons. Due to a lengthy illness, she was hospitalized and departed this life on September 5, 2022. Brenda received her education through the Baltimore City Public School System and graduated from Frederick Douglass High School in 1962. After high school she married Earl Murel and they conceived two children from this union. After a number of years, the marriage however ended in dissolution. In June of 2003, she married Herbert Willoughby, a long-time friend and former schoolmate. The two had been friends many years before becoming husband and wife. Their marriage was based on not only the love they had for one another, but also the foundation of a deep friendship. Throughout life she obtained various forms of medical certifications and served in multiple capacities as a Health Care Provider. She genuinely cared for others while working in nursing homes and adult day care centers prior to her career service within Baltimore City Public Schools where she worked as a School Health Nurse. She was well loved by both staff and students. After her retirement in June of 2014, she was sorely missed by all. Brenda's spiritual journey was initially guided and nurtured by her father, Reverend Hammond Fews Sr., Former Pastor of Canaan Baptist Church, from her early upbringing into adulthood. After his death, she later found a second church home, First Corinthian Baptist Church, where she remained a dedicated member for more than 30 years. Brenda took great pride in her appearance. She loved fashion and was seen by many as a sharp dresser. She was very stylish and had a knack for coordinating outfits with accessories. She also loved to dance, read books, take day trips, watch movies, and listen to music. Her positive energy and warm persona will be missed by many. She had a beauty that truly laid within. Brenda's husband, Herbert, preceded her in death, as well as her daughter Paula, brother Hammond, sister Rosetta, and brother-in-law Herbert. She leaves to cherish: Her brother John: daughters Chanel and April: grandchildren Keara, Shakeya, Keon, John, and Kyra: great grandchildren, Mason and Colin: son-in-law John: sister-in-laws, Barbara and Kathy. A host also of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
