Obituary of Sophia Robinson Jones

Sophia Robinson Jones, at 69 years old, received her angel wings and took flight to her heavenly home on Monday, September 5, 2022. She was a beloved mother and grandmother, a devoted counselor, and a dear friend to many. Undoubtedly, Sophia was a woman of great faith who loved the Lord, her family and lifelong friends. Sophia entered this life on March 17, 1953, in Baltimore, Maryland. She, along with her four brothers, were raised and lovingly nurtured by their parents, the late Calvin Brown and late Sarah Robinson Brown. From an early age, Sophia possessed a deep passion for education and excelled in her academic studies. She was educated in the Baltimore City Public Schools System and was a 1973 graduate of Northwestern High School. From her union to Tony Lee Jones, Sr., she received the greatest blessings of her life: her two sons, Tony and Bert. She was also a loving caretaker of her "farm animals", Monte (cat) and Rorry (dog). Throughout her entire adult life, Sophia continually pursued higher education. She earned numerous advanced degrees, including a Bachelor's in Law, Bachelor's in Nursing, Master's in Psychology, and a Doctorate in Public Health. An exemplary professional, Sophia worked as a substance abuse counselor and advocated for many clients on their road to recovery. She also served as a part-time instructor at Coppin State University and Morgan State University. Sophia was lovingly referred to as "Nana", "Aunt Sophie" and "Mama Jones". Her smile could light up a room, and her laugh was infectious. She enjoyed trips to Rehoboth Beach. She also enjoyed gardening, reading mystery novels, sewing, crocheting, and knitting. For several years, she enjoyed making custom jewelry to sell at craft shows. At every family gathering, she was asked to bring her famous macaroni and cheese with bacon and barbecued spareribs. Despite her full schedule and numerous hobbies, she always had time to do what mattered most: spend quality time with her family. In addition to her parents, Sophia is now reunited with three of her brothers: Albert Brown, Bert Robinson and Calvin Leo Robinson. She leaves to cherish her memory: son, Tony Lee Jones, Jr. and daughter-in-law Crystal; son, Bert Christopher Jones and daughter-in-law Stephanie; one stepdaughter, Marie Crosby; brother, Leon Robinson and sister-in-law Gwendolyn; four granddaughters, Hailee Elliott, Shania Jones, Arianna Jones and Harper Lee Jones; one grandson, Bert Jones; a host of nephews, nieces, great-nephews/nieces, great-grandnephews/grandnieces and other relatives and friends. While Sophia departed suddenly from this life, the imprint of who she was will never leave. Mom, Nana, Sis, Aunt, Cousin, Dear Friend… we will carry you in our hearts until we reunite in Heaven.
