James and Cecelia Hacket posted a condolence

from: James and Cecilia Hackett
We met Jerome K. Lawrence back in the late 60's. First, we met his wife
Pearl through her uncle, the late Willie Henderson who lived in Kinsale,
VA., where we live. One day while visiting Mr. Willie, Pearl and her mother
was there visiting Mr. Willie. I would write letters for Mr. Willie to
Pearl's mother, and Pearl would write letters to Mr. Willie for her mother,
and we had met through correspondences. So, that particular day we finally
met in person.
Jerome and my husband James became friends on that day. They started talking
and found that they had a lot in common. Jerome was a country boy in heart.
He loved deer hunting, fishing, cooking and eating crabs, and shucking
oysters. just enough to eat. One would think he grew up in the country along
with my husband. They became best friends, {more like brothers}. Jerome met
all the Hackett brothers and would often visit with them, especially
Mitchell, before he left to go back to Baltimore, after visiting with us.
Jerome was a pleasure to be around. The only time him and my husband
disagreed was when it came to cars. Jerome was a chevy man, Hackett was a
ford man. They could make a lot of noise on that subject.
We traveled together; we went to Vegas, twice, and spent two weeks at their
time share each time with them. We often spent nights at each other's homes.
Jerome always has a smile on his face and a joke in his mouth. He will truly
be missed.

It has been an honor to have met Mr. Lawrence. Being a neighbor the last 17.5 years has been a blessing. The thing that stands out the most to our family about Jerome is his heart and friendship. Always willing to lend a hand to help out a neighbor. A person who loved his family dearly. Just all around great human being. Peace be with you all at this time. You have gained an Angel by your side I’m sure of it!

To my Great-Uncle Jerome K. Lawrence,
Words can’t express the love you’ve shared towards me and those in our family. As a child I remembered you opening your heart and your home to me and our entire family. Staying weekends and coming over for family cookouts are memories that I will cherish forever. Swimming in your pool, playing volley ball, feeding the chickens and eating snowballs are just a few of my favorites. You’ve always inspired me to reach my goals. You’ve always shown me that I could go anywhere, obtain anything and also the joy of sharing it all. I developed a love for ranch salad dressing (it’s my favorite) at your house, because Aunt Pearl would buy a variety of salad dressings. Uncle you are a great man even in spirit. I thank you for showing me love, thank you for inspiring me and thank you for being a beautiful soul. The moments that we all (You, Aunt Pearl and My Mom) spent on the phone reminiscing about the the past will remain with me. I especially enjoyed hearing about those memories before my time. I will cherish you, our talks and our time spend together on earth, until we meet again.
Loving you Always,
La’Leta Carver, BSN, RN

It is hard to believe that a awsome man like yourself is no longer with us. I am honored to have known you Uncle Jerome. I remember sitting with you and listening to all the adventures you had in life. The thing that is awsome to me every adventure you told me of you and the family , there was never a negative adventure. You never had nothing negative to say. To me I think about that andthat is a awsome memory alone about you. I remember you buying a leather coat for no reason, just because you wanted to be a blessing to me. As a uncle you never let me be left out of nothing you planned for other kids. You took me on trips and pretty much treated me like your own child. You showed love. You met my wife Tamia and developed a awsome relationship with her. She loved your since of humor. You will be missed Uncle Jerome. I do realize you are now living real life in the spiritual. Alife that we can not begin to imagine. Thank You Jesus for keeping my Uncle Jerome.

So many good memories none bad. I’ll love and cherish him forever. The best bonus grandpa. My heart hurts but I know you aren’t hurting anymore. I just wish I could hug you one last time. Thank you for all the lessons, love, and memories. A beautiful soul I hope all the angels know what they have. Even when I would misbehaved you never yelled you would just give me a look and I knew you were upset with me. But you never got angry, always kind and gentle. I miss the times when I was little and too young to understand, all I knew was I was your little nurse and I was going to be by your side until you were better. I was so excited to bring you your orange juice and breakfast in bed. I remember sitting on the porch at night time with you on the rocking chairs looking at the stars and all of the lightning bugs. And the time we had a contest to see who could hold their breathe under water the longest and you’d always win. I miss being so scared to sleep alone and I ran to your room, all the way to your side of the bed and you picked me up and put me in the middle and told me I was safe. I miss kissing your cheek to wake you up in the morning. I miss laughing so hard because you stole a sip of my drink and you always said it was to “take the poison out”. And you were the only one I’d let take my loose teeth out because you never hurt me. I just want one more day on your lap in the basement eating pretzels and watching movies, and you always sent me home with a cd you made for me with all my favorite movies. I’ll cherish every single one of these memories you will never be forgotten. Because of you I know what it feels like to be loved unconditionally. I pray you knew how much I loved & valued you. I’ll love you forever. I pray you are at peace. Thank you for everything. I know you’ll always be with me and I promise to make you proud.
