Obituary of Henry Perry

Henry Perry (affectionately known as Michael to many), departed this life onSaturday, April 9, 2022, in Franklin Square Hospital, Baltimore, MD. He was born on November 17, 1953. He was the son of Doris Perry and Cornelius Perry, Sr who both preceded him in death. He grew up in the Patterson Park neighborhood of Baltimore, MD and graduated from Patterson High School in 1971. After graduating high school, he earned a Bachelor's of Science from University of Maryland, College Park and received professional certifications in leadership and personnel management. He also joined a musical group called the IBMs. On June 24, 2006, Henry Perry married his longtime love, Laverne. Over the years they spent their time raising their son, Michael, traveling, running their catering truck, and entertaining a host of family and friends at their home in Parkville, MD. In 1974, Henry began working for the United States Coast Guard. During his tenure, he worked as a Welder Journeyman and an Equal Employment Opportunity Counselor. You would also see him with his children, nieces, and nephews at holiday events at the Coast Guard. After 20 years of service, Henry retired and became a self-employed business owner. From 1994-2020, Henry ran his cleaning and maintenance company, Perry's Cleaning Services. He was the Maintenance Manager for Jubliee Properties, a senior housing facility, until the day he died. In 1991, Henry joined the Prince Hall Mason, Zion Lodge #4 and held many leadership roles. He was a 3rd degree Mason. Friends and family remember Henry for his supportive nature, his quick wit, his humor, and his cooking. He leaves to mourn, his loving wife, Laverne Perry and his beloved children Alicia Sherod, Phallon Perry, Michael Perry, and son-in-law Jonathan Sherod. He was Pop-Pop to three adoring grandchildren: Mason, Autumn, and Xavier. He also leaves to mourn a nephew/second son, Saden Brown. Along with his siblings, brothers: Warren, Mark, Michael, Malcolm, and Charles; and sisters: Linda, Deborah, Gail, and Gidget. Preceding him in death were siblings Cornelius, Doris, Zackary, Minnie, and Nellie. He will also be missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and lodge brothers. A viewing will be held Friday, April 15, 2022, Vaughn Greene Funeral Services - East, 4905 York Road, Baltimore, MD from 3:30 - 6:30 pm. The funeral services will be held 10:30 am, Saturday, April 16, 2022, at Hiss United Methodist Church, 8700 Hartford Road, Parkville, MD 21234. The wake will begin at 10:00 am.
