Obituary of Joseph Wayne Hicks

"But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint." - Isaiah 40:31 Compassionate, generous, bold, creative, funny, disciplined, outgoing and devoted are all adjectives to esteem the qualities of a wonderful man. Joseph Wayne Hicks was born in Baltimore, Maryland on November 13, 1951. He is the third child of Theresa May Hicks and Joseph Hicks. Joseph Wayne Hicks affectionately known as "Wayne" graduated from Carver Vocational Technical High School in Baltimore, Maryland. Wayne's collegiate studies were held at Morgan State University. Wayne was a member of Providence Baptist Church where he received Christ at an early age and formally baptized. Wayne enjoyed much of his professional life working for the United States Postal Service (USPS), the United Parcel Service (UPS) and other jobs throughout his career. Additionally, he loved working on home projects and remodels. Wayne proudly provided service for his country in the US Navy from 1971 to 1976 as a Yoeman. Wayne enjoyed spending time with family and loved his "Littles", an endearing term for his grandchildren and great grandchild, as well as traveling and camping. Wayne loved hosting annual cookouts and gatherings for family and friends. Wayne loved to dance! By now, you have guessed that Wayne was a family man and avid traveler. On Sunday evening, February 13, 2022; through the righteousness of Jesus Christ, God saw fit to call Joseph Wayne Hicks home. Wayne laid a path of peace as he is remembered by his loving wife of 18 years, Bernadette Maria Hicks, by his children Tony Maurice Hicks Sr. (Sharnetta), and Felicia La' Tonia Hicks, stepchildren, James Nathaniel Thomas (Deanna), Sharnett Michel Kelly, Krystal Ann Kelly, Thomas Bernard Smith Jr., Joseph Barnes, and his loving supportive emotional best friend Samuel Alfred Hicks (Sam). Wayne is preceded in death by his brother Robert Anthony Hicks. Wayne is survived by two loving sisters Odell E. Reaves (Marion) and Barbara Lavern Taylor. Wayne also leaves to mourn of host 10 grandchildren: Julie Thomas, Oregon Brooks, William Moore Jr., Sanai Hicks, Tony Hicks Jr., Morgan Hicks, Rayne Bailey, Jessie Rogers, Cameron Foster, Thomas J. Smith and one great grandchild Troy Melton. One niece, Linell Jackson (Ellis), and one nephew Brian Taylor. A host of loving cousins, four great nieces: Bra'el, Milan, Maleah, and Bristol, three great nephews: Zachary, Aaron, and Brice, and many friends who are very dear to his heart. A public viewing for Mr. Hicks will be held Monday, February 21, 2022 from 4:30 pm until 7:00 pm at Vaughn C. Greene Funeral Services, 8728 Liberty Road, Randallstown, MD. A homegoing celebration for Mr. Hicks will be held on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at Providence Baptist Church, 1401 Pennsylvania Avenue, Baltimore, MD, where the family will receive friends from 10:30am until 11:00am with services to follow. The interment service for Mr. Hicks will be held at the Garrison Forest Veteran's Cemetery, 11501 Garrison Forest Road, Owings Mills, MD on Friday, February 25, 2022 at 11:30 am where he will recieve U.S. Navy honors.
