Obituary of Deborah A. Johnson-Curtis
Deborah A. Johnson-Curtis, age 70, of Baltimore, transitioned Sunday, January 23, 2022, in Baltimore, MD. Mrs. Johnson-Curtis was born July 29, 1951, in Baltimore, MD.
Deborah Ann Johnson-Curtis was called home to meet her Heavenly Father after a brief illness on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at 8:29am at John Hopkins Medical Hospital.
Deborah Ann Johnson-Curtis was born on July 29, 1951 to Bernice M. Johnson and the late Enoch M. Johnson Sr. in Baltimore, MD. Deborah, or Debbie, as she was affectionately called, was a very happy and curious young child. She loved hanging out with her neighborhood friends and occasionally she was known to bring pets home to Bernice and Enoch. Her early education years were spent at Edgewood Elementary, and then on to Calverton Junior High.
For some years, it was only Debbie in the Johnson house, but in 1962, she gained a little brother, Enoch M. Johnson Jr., who became not only a sibling, but her friend and her shadow. Wherever Debbie went, Enoch was not far behind because she took him everywhere.
Debbie went to Northwestern High School, and there she met lifelong friend Anita Hoffmeister. She graduated in 1969. After graduation, Debbie went on to study at the Maryland Institute College of Art.
In the fall of 1972 at MICA, Debbie met David Curtis. After dating for 7 years, they were wed on October 6, 1979 at St. Philip James Catholic Church in Baltimore, MD, and were married for 42 wonderful years. Though Debbie and David were not blessed to have biological children, they were blessed with two nieces, Elisha and Jenee, who were more than grateful to have Debbie and David as not just their aunt and uncle but also second parents.
After graduation from MICA, Debbie decided to move to New York where she lived with her Uncle Robert and Aunt Deborah before landing her first job as an Art Director at Ted Bates, one of the largest advertising agencies of that time.
After some time in advertising, Debbie decided to move back to Baltimore and pursued a career in cosmetology and became a Beautician, studying at the Baltimore Studio Hair Design. After completing her training, she went on to work at Main Attraction beauty salon and Signature Hair Care, alongside Anita. She then went on to work at Social Security for 23 years, before retiring.
Debbie had a curiosity, an openness, a passion for life, and for people as well. Whilst married, Debbie and David traveled to many places, including Montreal, Cape May, San Francisco, her favorite place was Chinatown. She loved exploring new places and having new experiences. You could always find Debbie at BaltiCon or Otakon every year since she was a heavy Science Fiction and Anime fan.
Debbie had a grace, a kindness, and a warmness to her presence that was felt when she was spending time with loved ones, and even when she met people for the first time. When people met Debbie, they just fell in love with her instantly because that is what she was, love. She will be sorely missed by all.
