Obituary of Walter Everett Smith, Sr.

Walter Everett Smith, Sr. was born May 26, 1934, in Towson, Maryland to the late Alexander Smith and Mary Smith. He attended Baltimore County Public Schools and served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958. Mr.Smith departed this life on December 10, 2021. Walter married Lorraine and from that union had two sons. Lorraine and Walter remained friends. In June 1968, Walter married the late Dorothy Smith and from that union four children were born. After serving in the military, Walter began his career with Baltimore County as a laborer and worked his way up training coworkers how to drive trucks. He furthered his career in solid waste management by becoming a supervisor until his retirement after 30 years. Even while employed Walter was active worker at Timonium and Pimlico Racetrack as well as avid horse racing fan where he and mom would often visit Charlestown Racetrack. Walter's other passion was spending time with family hosting cookouts at his home, watching sports and cooking, especially chicken on Sundays which became a tradition for not just immediate family but basketball players on the court on Sundays. He even loved cracking jokes with family as he thought his humor was hilarious. He was an active member of Mt. Calvary AME. under Rev. William Gray serving on the Trustee board. A viewing will be Monday, December 20, 2021, at Vaughn Greene Funeral Services - East, 4905 York Road, Baltimore, MD (21212) from 4:00 until 7:00 PM. A celebration of life will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at Mt. Calvary AME Church, 300 Eudowood Lane, Towson, MD (21286). The wake will begin at 10:30 AM. The burial will follow in Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens, Timonium, MD.
