Denise Chandler

Obituary of Denise Michele Chandler

Denise Michele Chandler, daughter of the late Charles Curtis, Sr. and Catherine Carpenter, was born May 31, 1956 in Baltimore, Maryland. She departed this life suddenly on October 16, 2021. Denise, a.k.a. Niecy, received her education in the Baltimore City Public School system. She met and married Isaac Chandler and from that union two children were born. She gave her life to Christ in her early twenties and immersed herself in "The Word of God" quoting various scriptures in any environment and without trepidation. She aligned herself with other individuals who had that same passion for God. For a time, she was under the ministry of Dr. Marie Brice-Hawkins of Pentecostal Deliverance Church Ministries, whom she adored. She attended the Eldorado Academy of Cosmetology and received certification, as she had a natural affinity for haircare and styling. Niecy went on to seek employment in various industries including Municipal Employees Credit Union (MECU) and Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks, to name a few. She enjoyed her work-life and the people she worked with. Niecy was a very outgoing and outspoken individual. She made friends in various environments and was well liked by others. She had an infectious, yet unmistakable laugh that would make you join in or cause you to walk away if you were the target of her humor. She was also known for her sense of style and could put an outfit together that would turn heads. She had a keen eye for fashion and loved to shop, especially for shoes. Another one of Niecy's talents was cooking (though adamant on how she didn't like to). She made the best seafood salad, candied yams, and baked macaroni and cheese you ever tasted. Her prized deserts were banana pudding and pineapple upside-down cake! Niecy relocated to Philadelphia to finally overcome her issues with substance abuse. She made her life there along with her mate, Glenn Lane (who preceded her in death) and son, Kendrick Lane (whom she raised as her own). She found a sense of purpose as she raised and loved her new son in Glenn's absence. Niecy was also active in Narcotics Anonymous, where she met and mentored others, especially those relocating from her hometown of Baltimore, Maryland. Denise leaves behind to celebrate and cherish her memories, her mother Catherine Carpenter; children: Damon and Kimberly Chandler and Kendrick Lane; daughter-in-law Dawne Chandler; sisters: Linda Harris and Alease Davis; brothers: Charles (Poppy), Bruce, and Craig Curtis; grandsons: Terrel Griffin, Terrell Breeden Jr., and Kahlil Chandler; granddaughters: Kayla Breeden and Kaylynn Chandler; sister-in-laws: Charlene and Angela Curtis; aunt Gloria Stewart; and uncle Melvin Bright. She also leaves to mourn four nieces: Glenda Curtis, Nicole Harris, and Cynthia and Heather Davis; six nephews: Devin and Bryan Curtis, Ronald Johnson Jr., and James Jr., Joshua, and Shawn Harris; three lifelong friends: Cynthia Robinson, Evangelist Sharon (Candy) Booker, and Wanda Ford; one new friend Alisa Hill; and a host of other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her sister Christine Curtis-Duncan and brothers: Kevin and Barry Curtis. A memorial service will be held 2:30 PM, Saturday, November 6, 2021, in the Chapel at Vaughn Greene Funeral Services - West, 5151 Baltimore, National Pike, Baltimore, MD 21229.
