Obituary
Obituary of James Edward Smallwood Sr.
On May 8, 2021, after 86 years, James E. Smallwood Sr. "Jamie" was called home to glory. Jamie was born on March 29, 1935, the fifth of eight children born to Robert and Marian Smallwood.
James was educated in the Baltimore City Public Schools graduating from Frederick Douglass High School in 1952. After graduation and a little motivation from his father, he joined the Air Force on July 2, 1952 serving in the Korea War earning an Honorable Discharge on July 13, 1956.
Jamie married Lillian Lockley (deceased), and from this union Jamie Jr., Bruce and Parris were born. Later with Anne Borders (deceased), three more children were born, Tramaine, Dameron and Jacques. He would later marry Isadora Wiggins (deceased). With Artie Dumont, his life partner, four daughters were born, Amanda, Joan, Marion and Kate. Artie tirelessly cared for him at home during his illness until his transition.
Jamie was the supervisor of building maintenance for the Hecht company and later made his living doing home improvement and as a general contractor. He also enjoyed fishing, playing pool and much to everyone's surprise, he was really good at cornhole. He was the consummate cook and baker. His favorite dishes to prepare were jambalaya, catfish and pineapple upside down cake. On any given day you could catch him at the local store playing his numbers. Jamie wasn't a church going man, but one chilly New Year's eve in church, he saw fit to accept Christ as his Savior and was really happy about it when he did.
Jamie will be remembered by his life partner, Artie Dumont. His brothers: John (Jackie) Smallwood and Paul Smallwood. His children: Jamie Smallwood Jr., Bruce Smallwood, Parris (Bobby) Jackson, Dameron Smallwood, Jacques Smallwood, Amanda Lipscomb, Joan Smallwood, Marian (Ash) Maynor and Kate Smallwood. His grandchildren: Brandon Smallwood, Jamal Smallwood, Naomi (Emmett) Butler, Julion Smallwood, Jabari (Natalie) Jackson, Yosef Jackson, Jaivian Smallwood, Imeira Dickson, Da'sheyll Dickson, Jakai Burrell-Coxson, Olivia Lipscomb, Jamari Burrell-Coxson, Demi Walker, and Aaliyah Fields. His great-grandchildren: Shaqwana, Lyric, Asia, Quran, Kaliyah, Jai'Quan, Nie'kyia, and Imara Smallwood, and Ethan and Theodore Butler. He leaves a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by Robert Smallwood (father), Marian Smallwood (mother), Robert Smallwood, Jr. (brother), Louis Smallwood (brother), Delores Baker (sister), Helen Davis (sister), Jean Barton (sister), and Tramaine Smallwood (daughter).
