Rufus "Buddie" Waddell

Obituary of Rufus "Buddie" N. Waddell

Rufus Norris Waddell, Affectionately known as "Buddie", was born on March 15, 1953 in Whiteville, North Carolina to Margie Edith Webb Waddell (mother) and Wilbert Norris Waddell (father). Raised in the small town of Bolton, North Carolina, Buddie attended Columbus County Schools. There he made lifelong friends that strengthened his bonds to his southern upbringing. Moving to Baltimore, Maryland with his mother and siblings as a teenager, he attended Edmondson High School where he graduated in 1971. In 1973 Buddie married his eternal love Constance Yvonne Marshall Waddell. His pride and joy was for the wellbeing their love created together, their family. Employed by Domino Sugar as an Industrial Mechanic, Buddie was well liked and loved by his Domino family. In June of 2019 after dedicating 39 years to a robust career, he achieved his goal of retirement from his beloved Domino Sugar. Buddie enjoyed the great outdoor pastimes of hunting, fishing, and gardening. No task was too great for him to tackle or build a solution to fix any problem. His creative problem solving and "can do" attitude was one of his many talents. A love for cars and motorcycles, birthed a hobby of motorcycle riding and frequenting drag races. He spent most of his time at peace in his yard at home, tending to his precious grass that was notoriously off limits. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, his dedication to his family was one to be admired. Closeness with his sisters and brothers was a beautiful relationship that he cherished and upheld as a loving patriarch. His greatest joy and pleasure was becoming a grandfather to his darling Charli, whom he adored, nicknaming her "Boo". Buddie Waddell loved his wife, children, family and friends dearly. The love he shared with them was unparalleled and immeasurable. Buddie turned strangers into friends and made friends everywhere he went. He never met anyone he didn't like, but if he did, you'd know it. His friendship and love made you feel safe and warm. His house was your house, unless you made the mistake of parking in his driveway. If you had car trouble, needed a helping hand, needed a laugh, or just a hilarious conversation about everyday life, you could count on Buddie. Every call or conversation ended with, "If you need me, call me". He is Survived by his devoted Wife of 48 years, Constance Y. Waddell; Son, William "Jay" White; Daughter, Lindsay Waddell Scott (Husband, Keenan Scott II); Granddaughter, Charli Marie Hilton; Father, Wilbert Norris Waddell, Brothers, Larry Waddell (Wife, Eddith Waddell), Ronnie Waddell; Sisters, Theresa Waddell, Cynthia Waddell, Adriane Waddell, Erica Harris, and Denise "Pooh" Waddell. In addition, a host of cherished nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Buddie is preceded in death by his dear son, Shanthi Waddell; Loving mother, Margie Edith Waddell; and his younger brother, Gregory "Pike" Waddell.
