Obituary of Henry Polee

Mr. Henry Polee, Sr., age 86, of Halethorpe, transitioned Thursday, April 22, 2021 in Baltimore VA Medical Center of Baltimore, MD. Mr. Polee was born October 22, 1934 in Brawley, CA. A Homegoing Celebration for Mr. Polee will be held on Thursday, May 13, 2021, at Vaughn C. Greene Funeral Services, 8728 Liberty Road, Randallstown, MD 21133, where the family will receive friends from 2:00pm until 2:30pm with services to follow. Henry was known to his family as "Honey Bunch", he was born in Brawley, CA to Vera and Jack Polee. Henry was the third of six children born to this union. The family relocated to Los Angeles then they moved to Basilone Homes in the San Fernando Valley, where Henry graduated from San Fernando High School "class of 52", with accolades in basketball and track. After a year in college, Henry joined the Army and fought in the Korean War. Once Henry returned from the war, he later married Earline to this union they had three daughters, Sheila, Yvonne (Bonnie), Lydia, and son Henry Jr. Henry worked for Los Angeles Board of Education for 30 years, athletic official for 40 years, entrepreneur, security supervisor, meals on wheels. However, he left his Legacy upon Los Angeles Metropolitan area as an icon official, and the first black official to referee a televised high school basketball game in Los Angeles. Henry lived a zest life, he was very passionate about reading newspaper, comic books, doing crossword puzzles, smoking his cigars, telling jokes, playing cards, dominoes, watching and attending sport events, cowboy movies, James Bond and he enjoyed helping others. Henry was predeceased by his parents Vera and Jack, and his brothers Willie and Richard. He is survived by his sister Eleanor and brothers Jack and Murel, son Steven, grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends.
