Obituary of Catherine Edmonds Myers

A Celebration of Life For Catherine Edmonds-Myers Sunrise: June 8, 1932 - Sunset: April 12, 2021 Thursday, April 22, 2021 10:30 am Wake 11:00 am Service Bishop Clifford M. Johnson, Jr. Sr. Pastor Catherine Coley was born to Bettie Coley and Lewis Coley Sr. on June 8,1932 in Halifax County, North Carolina. However, due to a clerical error, some documents state that she was born in 1933. On the morning of April 12, 2021, she peacefully went home to be with the Lord. She received her formal education in the public schools of Halifax County, North Carolina. At an early age, she accepted Christ as her personal savior and joined Zion Hill Baptist Church. As a young woman Catherine relocated to New York to work as a nanny for several years and later moved to Baltimore, where she met and married the late Alonzo Godfrey Edmonds. Together, they raised and nurtured five children: James, George, Ella, Bettie, and Cathy until his passing in August 1974. She joined Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in January 1972 where she became a Senior Usher and faithfully and proudly served for nearly 50 years. It was during this time that she met fellow Senior Usher, Mr. Robert Lee Myers, Sr. After a long courtship, they married in April 1993 and remained married until his passing in July 2013. To this union, Mr. Myers brought 5 adult children Robert, Ronald, Curtis, Barbara and Diana. Catherine worked for Cross Wiping Cloth Company and worked for many years at Danny's Kiddie City. She was also a well-known maintenance worker at Towson Town Center, where she retired in 2004. She had a genuine love for people, especially children. She could often be heard enthusiastically expressing her love for her family, friends, church and her Bishop and there was no mistaking that she meant every word she said. Her gift of exhortation made everyone in her presence feel special. Her love was so strong, you could literally feel it whenever she hugged you and firmly patted you on the back. Catherine believed it was her ministry to show her love and concern for those who were suffering and made it her business, along with Robert, to visit the sick and shut in as often as possible. Her joyful nature and boisterous laughter were contagious and her favorite saying was, "Ain't nobody mad but the devil!" Catherine leaves to cherish her memories: her son George Coley; daughters Ella Curtis (Rodney) and Bettie Thaniel (Lorenzo); grandchildren Sherlita Coley; Rochelle Coley; Shaneka Curtis-Vail (Clifton); Carl Randall; Trevon Thaniel; Desiree Thaniel and DeAndre Thaniel. Two sisters, Betty Glover and Jean Alford (Ricky) of Baltimore. Daughter in law-Catherine Coley, Son in law-Morocco Martin. Her son, James Coley, daughter Cathy Martin, grandson, Antonio Woodard, Sr.; brothers, Lewis Coley, Matthew Coley, Willis Coley, Alphonzo Coley, Leon Coley and sisters Maebelle Gales, Panthea Burns, all preceded her in death. She also leaves to mourn a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces, great nephews, friends and church family.
