Yvette Shelton

Obituary of Yvette M Shelton

Yvette Shelton was born on June 17th 1951 in Baltimore Maryland to John Shelton and Sylvia Woodfolk. After defying death by surviving a disabling brain injury, a stroke which left her temporarily paralyzed, a different fall that robbed her of the ability to walk, and COVID-19, she died peacefully in her sleep after succumbing to dementia on March 16th 2021 at Meadow Park Rehabilitation Center. Yvette attended Dunbar Public High School. A self-proclaimed "tom boy", she was always one for grabbing what she wanted from life and never taking "no" for an answer. During her time there she excelled in sports winning numerous awards in track and field, swimming, and bowling. Later she went to school in Philadelphia for Radiology to become an x-ray technician. After graduating she pursued a career as a chemist at Domino Sugar, then became a Computer Operator for Honeywell Systems where she worked at NASA Goddard Spaceflight Center for 14 years. In 1993, she tripped at work causing permanent brain and spinal damage which would leave her disabled for the rest of her life. Though less physically capable, her fighting spirit never wavered. She would go on to support her son and the members of the Poly-Western Marching Band as a supportive band Mom. Though some were unsure if she would survive to see her son graduate from high school, she survived numerous heart attacks, strokes, falls, and even COVID-19 with her infamous tenacity. She is survived by her mother Sylvian Woodfolk, son Chris Shelton, sisters Vera Murchison, Judy Knotts, Cynthia Hilliard, Darleen Shelton-Brown, Janet Rivera, and Danita (Dana) Peterson, niece Twanyetta (Nicky) Gruber, nephews Denny Pitt, John Pitt, Corey Pitt, great nephew Joshua Lee, and cousin Denise Roberts-France among many other relatives. On Thursday, March 25, 2021, Services for Ms. Shelton, will be held at Vaughn C. Greene Funeral Services, 8728 Liberty Road, Randallstown, MD (21133) at 2:00PM.
