OBITUARY of Missionary Mother Mary Lee Hamlet Mother Mary Lee Hamlet, daughter of the late Woody and Bessie Pippens transitioned and took her flight to be present with the Lord on March 5, 2021. She was born on December 26, 1926 in Gasden, Alabama. She was the second of six children. In 1936, Mary Lee and her five siblings lost both their parents but were taken in and raised by their maternal uncle David L. Sims, Sr., and his wife Castoria Sims in Litwar, WV and with their own seven children. As a young woman, Mary Lee briefly attended Bluefield State College in Bluefield WV where she played on their basketball team. She was a faithful, and supportive wife and fully enjoyed her role beside her husband. They enjoyed a family of seven children and deep church life thru his elevation from Bro. Ray to Presiding Bishop of the Pentecostal Followers of Jesus Christ (1975- 1986). In her prime years in WV, she often worked domestically, a file clerk at Hartford Ins. Co. and later as a receptionist at a senior home. During these years her husband opened Gospel Lighthouse where she served faithfully as Noon Prayer Band leader. She would walk to the church to pray, even if it was only her. She played the piano and was often called on to sing solos even as a seasoned senior. Her most requested song was, "Heavenly Father I Appreciate You". She loved evangelism and loved training young women to be real missionaries. In 2006, she moved to Baltimore, MD with her daughter Rachel who lovingly cared for her for 13 years till her death. Her words, "Thank you for handling me Holy". She attended New Bethel Apostolic Fellowship where she played the piano and as she would say, "pushed the service" until she could no longer go. She leaves to cherish her memory: three sons; Elder Ray Hamlet (Christine) (VA), Elvin Hamlet (CT), Bishop Winfred Hamlet,(Linda) (CT), four daughters: Evang. Marion Adamson (Clifton) (MA), Wanda Canada (AL), Rachel Heggins (MD), Elizabeth Williams (MD); 17 grandchildren, 22+ great grands and 4 great, great grands. One living biological brother, Pastor Eric Sims (Rose) (VA), two sisters; Betty Ware (AL), Doris Ross (both of VA). One very special niece; Laverne Hamlet (MD), two special spiritual daughters, Yvette Lawson and Angela Lawson (both of CT), two very, very special spiritual daughter, Angela Spelman (VA) and Thomasina Wilson, (OH), very longtime faithful friend, Molina Stewart (CT) and very loving granddaughter, Atrice Williams (VA), many loving nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
