Obituary of Samuel Nathaniel McEwen

Deacon Samuel Nathaniel McEwen, Jr., age 80, of Columbia, transitioned Friday, February 12, 2021 in Howard County General Hospital of Columbia, MD. Deacon McEwen was born June 7, 1940 in Lexington, KY. A public viewing for Mr. McEwen, Jr. will be held on Friday, February 26, 2021 at Vaughn C. Greene Funeral Services located at 8728 Liberty Rd, Randallstown Md 21133 from 4:00pm until 7:00pm. A Homegoing Celebration for Deacon McEwen will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at The Celebration Church under the leadership of Pastor Robbie Davis, located at 7101 Riverwood Drive, Columbia Md 21046, where family will receive friends from 11:00am until 12:00pm with Services to immediately follow. Obituary Samuel McEwen was born on June 7, 1940 in Lexington, Kentucky and was the third child of seven children born to the late Samuel N. and Ella Mae McEwen. He departed this life peacefully on February 12, 2021. Sam attended Medina public schools, where he excelled in sports, particularly football. He graduated from Medina High School in 1957. After graduation he enlisted in the U S Army and once again excelled in a sport that was new to him, "boxing". Later he was appointed by his company commander to the position of PT (Physical Training) Instructor for troops who were being prepared for deployment to the war in Vietnam. After his Honorable Discharge from the Army Sam married his first wife, Sally and moved to Detroit, Michigan. From this union their son Derek was born. After his divorce he attended Henry Ford College and Michigan University earning a degree in Accounting. Upon completion of his education, he was employed by Ford Motor Corporation and later subsequently employed as Regional Sales Manager for a major corporation which transferred him to Baltimore Maryland where he met and married his current wife Linda. Sam and Linda have 2 daughters, Samantha and Natalie. He blossomed into a true entrepreneur owning and managing several dry cleaners, home improvement company and an accounting firm. He treated his clients as family was known for giving faith-based advice to clients and friends. It was in Maryland where Sam rededicated his life to Christ and was later ordained as Deacon at Celebration Church in Columbia Maryland. Sam loved God, family, church and joyfully touched the lives of many with his generous nature. Sam was a beloved husband to his wife Linda, a loving father to his son Derek McEwen (Shawn), his daughters Samantha Deininger (Stephen) and Natalie McLaughlin (Matthew), and a devoted brother to Jean Evans (Emmitt), Kenneth McEwen (Dorothy), Dawn and Paul. He was also a loving grandfather to Chase, Kennedy, Derek Jr. Tre, Stuart, Eden, Conner and Riley, a loving uncle to a host of nieces and nephews, a loving brother-law, and a loving guardian to Martel and Jerry. Sam is preceded in death by his sister Ella Wray Wilson and brother Charles S. McEwen. PUBLIC IN PERSON VIEWING will take place on FRIDAY, February 26th at Vaughn C. Greene Funeral Home, 8728 Liberty Rd., Randallstown, MD 21133 from 4 – 7pm.
