Obituary of Beatrice Jennie Phillips

Beatrice J. Phillips, daughter of the late Jacob G. West and the late Margaret W. West-Davis, was born on August 22, 1950. She was the eldest of 4 sisters born to this union. Two sisters preceded her in death, Joyce Johnson and Jocelyn Jenkins. The Lord thought it best to end her pain and suffering and take his faithful daughter home on Sunday, January 17, 2021. Bea, as she was affectionately known, accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age. She was baptized at her grandfather's church, Shiloh Church of God Inc. by the late Robert L. Johnson. As a youth Bea not only served as an usher and sang on the choir but she also taught Sunday School. She later joined Francis at Community Baptist Church October 25, 1987 under Christian experience from Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Baltimore, MD. She served as a Bible Study teacher under Christian Education, member of the choir and served as the Church Clerk from April to December 2006. Prior to her illness she became a member of Huber Memorial Church where she served on the Share Ministry, Bible Study Ministry and Women of Integrity. Bea was a lifetime member of the Women's Auxiliary of United Baptist Ministry Convention and Auxiliaries of the state of Maryland, Incorporated since 1990. She served as Elected Officer, Recording Secretary, from 2005-2009. She served on the Mentoring, Life Membership and World Missions Committees. She was a hard worker and pitched in wherever she was needed until her health began to fail her. Bea was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System. She attended Eastern High School and received her master's degree in Religious Education from The Ecumenical Institute of Theology, St. Mary's Seminary & University August 18, 1997. She also attended United Baptist College and Seminary where she served as registrar. On August 21, 1982, Bea married the love of her life Francis. Combined they share 6 children, Richard, Calvin, Delona, Darrell, Dawn and Donya. Bea and Coleman, as she affectionately called him, loved to travel and they attended many, many banquets together. They shared 38 beautiful loving years together in marriage. When you saw one, usually you would see the other. They were 'joined at the hip". Bea retried as a Sr. Special Investigator Insurance Auditor from Blue Cross and Blue Shield with over 32 years of service. She enjoyed spending time with family and traveling with Coleman. Bea was a dedicated wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend. She loved the Lord and dedicated her life to serving Him. Bea leaves to cherish her memory: her loving husband, Francis, sons, Richard L. Wright 3rd (Tia), Calvin D. Wright (Dale); step children, Delona Phillips, Darrell Phillips, Dawn Robertson (Bill) and Donya Phillips; grandchildren, Chelsy, Derrick, Richon, Miles, Ria, Essence, Justin, Christian, Aaron, Darien, Desmond, Kimberly, Samantha, Quincy, Jacob, & Sydney; one sister, Aliciea Mitchell; brothers in-laws, Franklin Jenkins, Otis Johnson, Joseph, Colins (Eunice), Vincent, Jim, (Carmen), Michael, & Alexander (Joyce) Phillips; 2 great uncles Thomas and Henderson West; 1 great aunt, Frances West; great-grandson, Brixton and a host of other relatives, family and friends.
