Obituary of Jeffrey Lynn Tarter

Jeffrey Lynn Tarter Sr. was born on September 10, 1954 and died on December 29, 2020. His parents Earl and Ruby Tarter (Jeffries) raised him in Baltimore, Maryland. Jeffrey, better known as Jeff, had health challenges, but his death was unexpected. Preceding him in death is his eldest son Jeffrey Lynn Jr., his parents, and his only brother Robert Tarter. Jeff was educated in Baltimore City Public Schools and attended Baltimore City Community College where he studied electronics. While a youth, Jeff attended St. James Episcopal Church with his family. In 1968 Jeff joined the Air Force and worked electronics on most of the Air Forces' jet planes, achieving the rank of Airman First Class. He worked for Lucent Technology from 1988 through 2000. In 1979 he met the love of his life, Veronica Russell. After a warm and extended courtship, Jeff and Veronica married in June 1988. From their union came two beautiful sons, Jeffery Lynn Jr. and, Justin Franklyn Earl Tarter. He adored his sons and often his job required him to travel to get home to attend their games. Jeff made a point of supporting his sons' educational and personal interests. He had many cousins and close relationship with many of them. He considered Earnie Scott not just his cousin but also a best friend. Jeff spoke his mind and was direct yet a caring person. He and Ronnie often held summer parties at home for both their families. Jeff enjoyed socializing with family and friends. Everyone knew that Jeff loved the water and was an avid swimmer. He and his wife were one of the co-owners of the Willow Glen North Swimming and Tennis Club. He also served as 3rd Commander of the American Legion Post #122 in Owings Mill, Maryland since 2017. With family and friends, Jeff loved watching the Baltimore Ravens football team, he held Super bowl parties, and with Ronnie, supported the team as early season ticket holders or just watching the team on TV. Jeff also leaves to mourn his wife, Veronica (Russell) and their son Justin, also his mother-in-law Nancy Russell, sisters: Laverne Braxton (Calaway), Sharon Pinchback (Charles), brother, Glenn Russell (Robin) Gail Russell (Stanley), Vernessa Lewis, Chandra Wiggins (Jessie). Brother's wife Deatra and niece, Sydney Tarter; goddaughter, Zalika Braxton. He leaves to mourn his best friends Regie Haysbert, Mike Whalen, Phil and Betty Strambler, Jimmy Lawson and Rick Kuhn and a host of other family and friends. The family thanks the medical team affiliated with Northwest and Sinai Hospital and special thanks to Penny Martin for the care and comfort given to Jeff and his family. Visitation hours for Mr. Tarter will be held at Vaughn C. Greene Funeral Services, 8728 Liberty Road, Randallstown MD 21133 from 4:30-7:30PM. On Friday, January 15, 2021, There will be a private burial, followed by a repast held at American Post 122, 4424 Painters Mill Road, Owings Mills, MD 21117 at 11:00AM.
