On Tuesday, January 12, 2021, Funeral Services for Mr. McGowan, will be held at 10:00 am. The interment will take place at Columbia Memorial Park Cemetery, Clarksville on Tuesday, January 12 at immediately following services. Obituary Eric Gordon McGowan, Sr. departed this life to rest eternally with his Heavenly Father on December 23, 2020 at Carroll Hospital in Westminster, MD. Eric and his wife Linda shared 10 years of love and devotion to one another. Eric was born on November 10, 1953 to the late Doris McGowan Brown and Elwood Scott both of Chestertown, MD. He attended Garnett Elementary and graduated in 1971 from Chestertown High School in Chestertown, MD. After graduating, Eric moved to Baltimore MD where he studied Law Enforcement at Essex Community College while working at the Maryland Division of Corrections Essex Md. When he retired from the Division of Corrections in 1991, he received his certification in food service and pursued a career as a Food Service Manager at Fairland Nursing Home in Silver Spring MD. He loved to cook and often shared his cooking skills with his church, family and friends and upon request would cater various social events. Eric joined the Peoples Community Baptist Church in Silver Spring and served as an usher, later he and Linda moved to Reisterstown MD and joined the Mt. Pleasant AME Church in Owings Mills where he served as one of the church bus drivers, the Chairman of the Men's Ministry, Secretary of the Trustee Board and supported other ministries as needed. Eric adored his children and loved his family deeply. He had charm and charisma and gained lots of friends and associates throughout his years. He loved singing, dancing, and music and yes, he could be quite humorous at times. He was preceded in death by his mother Doris McGowan Brown, stepfather -Freddie Brown Jr., fatherElwood Scott, son- Eric G. McGowan Jr., brother- Charles (Mickey) Brown, sister- Elaine Rice and greatgrandchild -Chace Blake. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife Linda; Stepmom: Doris Scott; Sons: Jarrod McGowan of Chestertown MD (mother: Joan McGowan) and Deric McGowan (Tiffany); (mother: Sylvia Jones) of Baltimore MD, Daughters: Ikiah McGowan and Felicia McGowan of Fontana CA (mother: Gloria McGowan), Stepson: Jontai Bracey, Stepdaughters: Shonique Comegys and Tennelia Engram (Corey); Godson: Matthew Weaver; Brothers: Thomas Brown(Anna Maria) of Austin TX, Fredrick Brown (Samantha) of Vermont CT, Grafton Brown, Nathan Brown, Sheldon Dorsey(Cynthia) and Kevin Scott of Chestertown MD, Gregory Roberts of Still Pond MD; Sisters: Sandra Goldsborough, Mazie Brown Benn(Bernard), Kathleen Brown, Katy Brown, Deborah Scott, Sheila Rich of Chestertown MD, Shelly Rodriquez (Richard)of Easton MD, Rosalie Ridgeway of Cambridge MD, Audrey Scott Henson (Lionel) of Odessa Delaware, Vanessa Scott of New Castle Delaware, Rena Scott of San Antonio TX, Pamela Scott Skinner of Baltimore MD; 25 Grandchildren: Eric 111, Sundae, Chai, Malic, Enrique, Rhiana, Amia, Jarrod Jr., Syrus, Shay'lyn, Miracle, Quaashie, Nasser, Kamaria, AJ, Deric Jr., Trinity, Shiloh, DaiQuan, TrehQuan, Takeira, Caleb, Candece; 9 great-grand's; uncles, aunts, and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
