When I think of cousin Melvin, I think of him along side my father Uncle Wadell as he called him. Melvin used to come and see him all of the time. In Baltimore and when he was visiting me in NC. The visit brought such joy to my dad. The conversations: just about whatever sports, politics or even jokes. Melvin enlisted the assistance of my dad to do some work at his home, my dad enjoyed this and spoke about it all the time. Nothing inspired or brought my dad more pride and happiness at that moment in his life. He even had me take him to the house to see the work. That is who Melvin seemed to be called to be. One who defined himself in terms of what he could bring to others. With just a visit he made others feel inspired and happy to be in his presence. He was a man that loved God and it shined through no matter what. He will be missed. Love you Melvin and always here for you Cousin Arlene.
