Obituary of Walter Wilson Lester Cole

October 30, 1938- September 10, 2020 Walter "Walt" Wilson Lester Cole passed away peacefully on September 10, 2020 after a brief period at Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care. Walter was born in Baltimore; the son of Walter Franklin and Marjorie Cole, née Brown. He was the fourth of nine children (Joan, Nina, Barbara (deceased), Walter, Wayne, Warren (deceased), Wendell (deceased), Gary, and Marsha). Walt attended Benjamin Banneker Elementary School #113 and Dunbar Jr./Sr. High School where he received an academic diploma in 1956. Walt went on to higher education at Morgan State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 1961 and a Master of Science degree in 1970. Walt became further interested in sports while at Dunbar. He participated in wrestling and track & field, especially running (cross country). He was undefeated in his high school cross country career and lost only once in track in the 1-mile event. He entered Morgan and was readily accepted as one of the college's eager distance runners. He took his love of the sport to become a beloved and one of Baltimore's top track & field coaches at Frederick Douglass, Northern and Carver Vocational Technical High Schools. Walt is survived by his wife of 34 years, Alice Cole and three children Walt, Jr., Tanya Cain and, Curtis Murray. He is also survived by six grandchildren, a son in-law, two daughters in-law and many other beloved family and friends. Vaughn Greene Funeral Services 8728 Liberty Road, Randallstown, MD 21133.
