Obituary of Ellwood Moore, Jr.

Ellwood Moore, Jr., 76, affectionately known as "Woody," was born on March 2, 1944 to the late Ellwood Moore, Sr. and Rosalie Moore in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. God called Ellwood home from labor to reward after a short illness on July 3, 2020. Ellwood accepted Christ at an early age and he became a member of Bethel AME Church in Pottsville, PA. After high school graduation from Pottsville High in 1962, He immediately enlisted in the United States Air Force. He traveled from state to state and finally got orders for a 3 year tour in Japan, and became a Sergeant in Communication. After 8 years of service, he was honorably discharged in 1970. After meeting the love of his life in 1975, Ellwood and Cordell Toxey-Moore were united in Holy Matrimony on July 6, 1981 in Elizabeth City, NC. From this union one child was born, Amber Elizabeth Moore. Ellwood worked in the finance industry for 35 years. Some of the companies were USLife Credit, Norwest Financial and Provident Bank as a loan officer. Ellwood was a member of Victory Temple Community Church under the leadership of Pastor Keith A. Carter. He previously was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Mt. Zion Hill Baptist and Freedom Missionary Baptist Church. Woody was a beloved husband, father, brother and friend. He had a care-free spirit with a huge heart. He loved to dance especially at his class reunions, where he won the best dance contest prize. He was an avid Baltimore Ravens fan, and loved playing card games, spades and Pinochle. He was preceded in death by brother, Rev. Archie Moore. He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Cordell Toxey-Moore; daughter, Amber Elizabeth Moore; three brothers, Robert Moore of Pottsville, PA, David Sydnor of Miami, Florida and Thomas Stearns of Concord, NC; a host of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
