Cynthia Eason-Barnes

Obituary of Cynthia Denise Eason-Barnes

Cynthia Denise Eason-Barnes, daughter of the late Arthur Leroy Johnson and Mary Otelia Eason (Smith) was born on March 18, 1963 in Baltimore, Maryland. God called His angel home on May 26, 2020. Her family and friends affectionately called her Missie. Missie arrived in this world a very sick baby with serious life threatening medical conditions. The doctor's had told her family that she would not be able to live a long normal life. Her church family at the time, Salem Thessalonian Baptist Church (the late Reverend Oscar C. Hoggs) immediately placed her on the altar. They prayed daily (all day) for a healing and for the medical teams. God heard their prayers and Missie defied the odds. On May 30, 1987, she gave birth to her only child, Derek Lamont Eason. To God be the Glory. Missie received her education in the Baltimore City Public School System. She graduated from the prestigious Western High School in June 1981; and she lived her life by their motto, "We have received light, and Let us give light." She continued her education at Coppin State College/University. In May 1985, she obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Services. She later furthered her education there, and in May 2004 obtained a Master's of Education Degree in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling. Missie was very passionate about being a service to her community and to helping people better their lives. She constantly educated herself with the necessary resources to help ex-offenders and recovering addicts; as well as the physical and mentally challenged population. In July 2007, she volunteered with the Baltimore City Dyslexia Tutoring Program. Numerous private companies throughout her life employed Missie. She was a Supervisor of Care Coordination a Gaudenzia, Inc.; as well as a Vocational Specialist; and a Manager of Day Services at Humanim, to name a few. At the time of her death, Missie was employed with the Baltimore Station Residential and Outpatient Treatment Program for Veterans as a Case Manager. She was aspiring to gain her State Board Certification to open her own Rehabilitation Recovery Facility. Missie gave her life to Christ at an early age and joined Salem Thessalonian Baptist Church of Baltimore, Maryland. She participated in Sunday school and sang on the church choir. When she departed Salem Thessalonian Baptist Church, she united with First St. Stephen's Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Aggie L. Brown Jr. She was a devoted missionary where she served until her death. God sent Keith Leon Barnes to Missie and they joined in Holy Matrimony on September 4, 2010. Their love for each other was undying and continues to live in Keith's' heart today; he professes that it always will. Missie loved to cook for Keith and to travel with him. The Barnes and Eason family became one. She leaves to cherish her loving memory: her husband, Keith Barnes, her mother, Mary Smith (Edward), her son Derek Eason (Katy), two stepdaughters, Tonette McFadden and Kierra Jones, one stepson, Keon Jones, three grandchildren, Derek Jr., Elijah, and Aubrey, her sister and best friend, Karen, her brother Eric Sr. (Shenell), her brother, Arthur (Sun), her sister, Lakisha, three brother-in-laws, Ronald, Reynard, and Bruce, two sister-in-laws, Janice and Cheryl, her very dear uncle, Antonio (Crystal), Four nephews, Eric Jr. (Alison), Johnathan, LaMar, and Arthur Jr., one niece, Brittany, and a host of other relatives and friends. Missie is meeting her brother Virgil at the gates of heaven. Amen!
