Ms. Mary Pinckney Grayson was born on August 12, 1951 in Sumter, South Carolina to the late Richard Pinckney, Sr. and the late Mary Butler Pinckney. She received her heavenly wings on May 4, 2020 at Northwest Hospital, Randallstown, Maryland.
Educated in the Sumter County Public School System, in Sumter, South Carolina, Mary was a proud graduate of the 1969 Class of Ebenezer High School. Known as a classy and sassy lady, Mary's beautiful spirit was adored by every person she encountered. Close family and friends remember her as "Mutt". The kindness of her spirit filled every room she entered, and she left a lasting-impression wherever she went. Soon after graduating, she made her way North to join her two sisters in Baltimore, Maryland. While she lived in Baltimore most of her life, Mary never forgot her roots in South Carolina and assured everyone she was a "Country Girl" at heart. Shortly after moving to Baltimore, Mary began her lifelong career in the healthcare profession.
Her giving, loving, and nurturing spirit transferred well into her profession. She received numerous accolades for her outstanding work as a Pharmacist Technician at Northwest Hospital and as a Compounding Infusion Pharmacy Technician and Customer Service Representative at Johns Hopkins Home Care Group, where she worked until her illness. She took pride in her career and was loved by her coworkers and supervisors alike. She believed in working hard and getting the job done. In her free time, she loved taking care of her plants, working on at-home projects, enjoying an ice-cold Pepsi, and relaxing in her living room with her grand-children. She made everyone who crossed her threshold feel welcome in her home. From offering food to giving the last of whatever she had, Mary possessed the heart of an angel.
While Mary loved her career with a passion, the love she had for her family surpassed all. She adored her family and she made sure they knew it. Whether it was cooking dinner or attending family gatherings, her family was the highlight of her life. She took pride in her children, Tanya and Tyrone, and even more pride in her grandchildren, Taylor and Tyana. She would do anything for these four.
Mary took her role of matriarch of her family seriously and prided herself on being an amazing grandmother. To her grandchildren, she was known as "Granny" or "MaMa." She shared a special bond with her oldest granddaughter Taylor, so much so that Taylor often boasted she was Mary's favorite in the entire family. When her second granddaughter, Tyana, was born, Mary went into "super" grandma mode and took on her name as "MaMa." Although she was known most for her kind soul, Mary's warrior spirit was the hallmark of her life. She was raised a fighter and fought until her sunset on May 4th at which time God granted her wings.
Mary was preceded by her parents and brothers Willie Thomas Pinckney and Joseph Pinckney. Though the presence of one so loving and dear is no longer with us, precious memories are left with her loving family. She leaves behind two loving and devoted children, Tanya Nicole Grayson (Bryant) and Tyrone Logan Grayson Jr. (Chatel); two beautiful grandchildren, Taylor Noelle Richardson and Tyana Joann Grayson; two sisters, Janie (Eugene) Fulton; Randallstown, MD; Delores James; Baltimore, MD; one brother, Richard Pinckney Jr.; Rembert, SC; one sister-in-law, Cornelia Pinckney; Dalzell, SC; and a host of loving aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. Her loving memories will be cherished by her relatives and friends.
