Zenith McCoy

Obituary of Zenith McCoy

Zenith Mae McCoy was born March 19, 1949 in Baltimore, MD to the late Joseph and Daisy DeVance. After a lengthy illness, she went home to be with our Lord on April 8, 2020. Zenith was raised in a Christian home and was a believer in Jesus Christ. She was educated in the Baltimore Public Schools and graduated from Eastern High School in 1967 with honors. She took several courses at then Morgan State College and went on to have a very successful career in the Federal Government. She was a loyal employee of the Social Security Administration for 35 years and ultimately retired as a Benefits Authorizer. Zenith earned numerous awards and citations while working at the downtown Baltimore location and the Woodlawn Md location. After her retirement in 2008 she relocated to Senoia, GA. Zenith was courted by and married the late Jerry Jemar McCoy and from this union she was blessed with one son, Jemar Jerry McCoy. She would often times reminisce and share funny stories about many of Jemar's antics during his early years growing up. Jemar blessed Zenith with three wonderful grandchildren and one great-grandson. Her legacy was one of giving and sharing her many blessings. Zenith had a big heart and was always willing to open her home to relatives especially two of her uncles when they were sick in their final years. She volunteered her time and effort to the WIN Family Services Program. Zenith also received an award for her service as a court representative for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) program, where she served as a champion and agent for at risk youth. Zenith loved to talk and had a warm and hearty laugh. During family affairs her distinct laughter could not go unnoticed. Prior to her brother Joseph's passing, he and she were instrumental in expanding the DeVance-Bickerstaff Family Reunion, which had been started on the local level by cousins in Alabama. Through their efforts, every other year the reunion has been hosted by family members in Michigan, Ohio, North Carolina, Georgia, Washington D.C. and Baltimore. Zenith was usually one of the major monetary supporters of the family reunions She leaves to cherish her memory: her only son, Jemar J. McCoy, four brothers Curtis Sr., James, William, and one sister Pauline DeVance; four sisters-in-law, Celestyne, Lauretta, Gaile, Ernestine DeVance; and Grandchildren Jaylah, Ashli, Te'quan McCoy, great-grandson Aidan Quomony; God-daughter Deborah Mott-Walker and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
