Dorethea Custis- Little

Obituary of Dorethea C. Custis- Little

Dorethea C. Custis-Little, known as Jackie to family and friends, received her Angel Wings on Friday April 24, 2020, after succumbing to a brief illness. She was born to the late Anna C. Sims and James S. Black on April 18, 1950 in Baltimore, MD, and was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System, graduating from Carver Vocational Technical High School in 1967. Jackie enjoyed a long career at the Maryland Department of Motor Vehicles, retiring more than 10 years ago to begin life as a retiree. This allowed her to spend time on what really mattered to her - traveling to visit family members. She refused to miss her children's most important moments - whether it was a graduation celebration in Rindge, NH or a wedding in Montgomery, AL, she was there. And when she wasn't jet-setting across the country visiting loved ones, she would relax with a little crocheting. This was her way to decompress, clear her mind and recharge. She refused to let idle hands beat a path to the Devil's Workshop. Jackie was a fiercely independent woman who embraced the excitement generated by new experiences, especially those that she could share with her loved ones. And even when her illness robbed her of her physical vitality and independence, she refused to allow her emotional and spiritual strength to waver. Her strength, that strength, will live on in those by whom she is survived - her long-term companion Herb Wyche, her children, SaRita Custis and Sean D. Custis, as well as by her sisters, MaDonna R. Black-Hogan, Joan B. Gwynn, Viola T. Cook, Mary C. Summers, Evelyn C. Summers and Catherine J. Chapman. May you rest in peace, Momma.
