Obituary of Lydia Virginia Mills
Lydia Virginia Mills, was born July 21, 1925 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late John L. Wallace and Stevella Wallace. She came from a large family(siblings); Phyllis, Archie, Samuel, Ophelia, Francis, and Margaret, all preceded her in death.
She was raised in Baltimore, Maryland and educated in Baltimore City Public Schools. She graduated from Frederick Douglass High School in 1943. After graduation she worked for several families before becoming a full time stay at home mom. She was also very busy taking care of the payroll, and scheduling, etc. for her husbands cement contracting business and restaurants that they owned.
"Lydia" or "Big Ma" as she was known, was the Matriarch of her family. She worked hard raising and taking care of her beloved children and husband. She loved her children, grand children, great grandchildren and everybody else's children. Big Ma was loved by all. She loved people, and people loved her.
Lydia loved the Lord and was very active in the church until she was unable to attend. She was a member of the Usher Board and other church ministries at Friendship Baptist Church.
On December 18, 1948 Lydia married the late Clinine Mills Sr.; and from this union came the late Clifteen, Ophelia, Carolyn, Calvin, and Cornell. She leaves to cherish wonderful memories: her children Clinine Mills Jr., Conrad Mills, Ervin Mills, and Catherine Harris; grandchildren, Dana, Ronald, Mashari, Tia, Clinine III (Kim), Rashard, Cassandra,Carla and Dontae; great grandchildren, Demond, Jazzmin, Cowanda, Taylor, Kevin, Brian, Leah, Laurin, Kurt, Kolby, Zoey, Zuri, Maison, and Ryan (deceased); one son-in-law Ronald Harris, daughter-in-laws Pamela Mills and Towanda Mills and a host of other friends and family members. Lydia aka Big Ma is and will be missed by all.
