Nathaniel James Sr.

Obituary of Nathaniel James Sr.

Nathaniel James, Sr., affectionately known as Tay, was born to Edward James, Sr. and Virginia D. Lunn on December 9, 1946. He was born in Darlington, South Carolina, and brought home to Baltimore, Maryland where his life's journey began. Tay received his education in the Baltimore City School System. After numerous employment positions, he went from the Sanitation Department to the MTA, where he worked for 32 years, first as a bus driver and ending his career as a light rail operator. He met and later married his teenage sweetheart, Veronica Joyce Jones, in July of 1967. They were blessed with 3 loving children, Saundra Denise, Nathalie Maria and Nathaniel Jr. Tay was a loyal and loving family man who loved spending time with his family. He loved to entertain people, amazing people with his card tricks, playing the guitar, reminiscing, dancing (from hand dancing to dancing like James Brown), singing, telling jokes, watching YouTube videos, fishing, skating, riding his motorcycle, creating works of art, fireworks, and taking drives to enjoy scenery and steep hills. He loved animals and was a dog whisperer. If you gave him your dog to watch for more than a day, you were running the risk of him keeping your dog. On Sunday, March 15, 2020, Tay James was called home to rest after 73 years of a life well lived and surrounded by love. Tay was preceded in death by his father, Edward James, Sr., and leaves to cherish his memory: His wife, Veronica; mother, Virginia D.; children, Sandy, Nathalie and Nate; sons-in-law, Anthony and Steve; grandchildren, Alex, Zachary, Nathaniel James, III, Hosea and Tyann; sisters, Dorothy, Judy and Mary; brothers, Edward Jr. and Raymond; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
