Obituary of Margaret Sylvia Garrett
Margaret Sylvia Garrett, age 93, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, January 29, 2020, in Future Care Good Samaritan Nursing Center. A life-long resident of Baltimore, MD, Mrs. Garrett was born January 25, 1927.
Margaret attended the Baltimiore City Public Schools and graduated from Douglas Senior High School.
She later took two years of under graduate studies at Loyola College and Morgan State University.
For fifteen years, she held several positions within the U.S. Federal Government starting as a Clerk Typist at the Internal Revenue Service, Record Searcher at the Veterans Administration and Secretary to The Deputy Commissioner for the Department of Labor-Workers Compensation.
In her spare time, she organzied family and group vacations. In 1971, she and her husband, William, founded the first African-American full service travel agency--Galaxy Travel, LTD. She traveled the United States and the world by bus, train, plance and cruise ships. Europe, South America, Carbbean and Africa were just a few of her destinations.
Margaret would later become a licensed realtor.
A viewing will be held Friday, February 7, 2020, at Vaughn Greene Funeral Services - East, 4905 York Road, Baltimore, MD (21212) from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be said 10:00 AM, Saturday, February 8, 2020, at The Episcopal Church of St. Mary the Virgin, 3121 Walbrook Avenue, Baltimore, MD (21216). Friends will be received at the church from 9:30 AM. The burial will immediately follow the services.
