Obituary of Edward John Green

In loving memory of Edward John Green, Jr., who was born on March 13, 1942, and departed from this world on September 24, 2023. Edward was raised by his loving parents, the late Mary Green and Edward J. Green, Sr. Edward received his education in the Baltimore City Public School System. He enlisted in the United States Army where he served in the 82nd Airborne Division. It was during this time that he met and married, Evelyn Green. From their union, five children were born, creating a legacy of love and joy. Later in life, Edward found happiness once again when he married Katie Green. From their loving union, three children were born. Like Edward, Katie had already been blessed with two children and together they raised their kids with love, patience, and compassion, continuing a blended legacy of love and joy. Edward always accepted God as his Savior. He was a member of City of Abraham Church and Ministries, Inc. He later joined Mission Life Church where he attended regularly and was a member of the male chorus. Edward dedicated close to 30 years of his life to working at Super Fresh. In 2006, he retired from his career, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of hard work and dedication. Beyond his professional achievements, Edward's true calling was being a family man. He was a devoted father, a loving grandfather, and an exceptional great-grandfather. Affectionately known as "Pop Pop", he cherished every moment spent with his family. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing pool, making his famous tuna fish, listening to his favorite artist, Barry White, singing with the male chorus and using his exceptional handyman skills to fix things. There was no challenge that couldn't be overcome with a little help from his trusty gray duct tape. Edward's presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. To say that his absence leaves a void is an understatement. Edward is survived by eight children: Cheryl Starks (Raimon), Valarie Green (Kendal), LaVerne Sharp (Michael), Darryl Green (Andrea), Michael Green, Sr. (Kwanza), Monica Hopkins, Antwan Hopkins, Sr. (LaTerra), and Edward Green, III; two sisters: Geraldine Davis, and Linda Jones; 23 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family, and friends. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Katie Green, his daughter Vonnette Hopkins-Bethea, his son Leroy Green; four brothers: Harry Leon Regusters, George "Sonny" Green, Lawrence Green, and David "Ernie" Green; and one sister, Brenda Green. May Edward's memory live on in our hearts, and may we find solace in the cherished moments shared with him.
