Obituary of Eugene Pearson, Sr.

Eugene Pearson, Sr., son of the late Marion Lee Anderson and Gertrude Pearson-Anderson was born on January 29, 1946 in Kinston, North Carolina. Eugene departed this life on Tuesday, October 3, 2023. Eugene, affectionately known as Gene, was born in Kinston, NC and relocated to Baltimore, Maryland as a child with his parents. He grew up in a loving, caring, God fearing home and completed his education in the Baltimore City Public School system where he attained his GED. Gene had a love for sports especially the home teams. He cheered for the Wizards, Orioles, Ravens and the Maryland Terps. In his spare time, it was not uncommon to find him on the basketball court in his younger days and in his later years lying comfortably on the sofa watching the Ravens game. During his lifetime he was blessed with two marriages: Phyllis Marie Pearson and Esther Mary Riley and seven children: Willie Epps, Eugene Pearson Jr., LaShawn Riley Whitley, Richard Edward Pearson, Anthony Lamont Pearson, James Eugene Pearson, Brian Emmanuel Eugene Pearson (BEEP). Professionally, Gene worked at General Motors and retired after 30 years of service. He was also a war veteran in the U.S. Army who served two tours in the Vietnam War and received a Purple Heart. Gene was a very active, loving, caring, thoughtful and carefree individual. He was always on the go circling the city running errands or providing transportation for others. Until recent years, he would sometimes head south to visit family. He lived life on his terms whether you agreed or not. Everyone that knew him knew that as he got older he was very set in his ways and quick to tell you when something was out of order. He would make you angry at times; make you laugh at times and just confused about how you feel all together. Regardless of how you felt at some point, you could never deny his passion, energy and love for his family (his legacy). Dad leaves to mourn Esther Mary Riley, sons Eugene Pearson Jr. (Dawn), Richard Edward Pearson, Anthony Lamont Pearson, (Shanna), James Eugene Brown, one daughter LaShawn Riley-Whitley (DeWayne) one sister Nancy Anderson. Three brothers Jimmy Lee Pearson Sr. (deceased), Marion Andrew Anderson, Johnny Pearson (deceased), grandchildren, great grand children, and a host of family and friends.
