Obituary of Catherine Hill

Catherine Hill, the youngest daughter of the late Annie Porter and Pratt Benthall was born on March 6, 1921, in Hertford County, North Carolina. She received her secondary education at the George P. Phoenix Normal School in Phoebus Hampton, Virginia. As a young child, she fellowshipped at a small Baptist church in Virginia. In the late 1930s, she moved to Baltimore, Maryland where she met and married the late Albert Hill, and had two children, Walter and Eleanor. Later, she worked as a domestic in Baltimore until she retired in the late 1970s. Mother Hill (lovingly called by her church members) joined her beloved Trinity Apostolic Holiness church in the late 1960s, where she fellowshipped with members of Trinity throughout the years. She participated in ministry at nursing homes and fellowshipped with out-of-state ministry conferences and revival celebrations. She dedicated her life of 101 blessed years to fellowship and to deliver the message of the Lord, and Mother Hill cherished every moment. She loved all of her family, and would give them her last. Mother Hill was born during Prohibition, lived as a child during the great depression, and witnessed many wars (such as World War II and the Korean War) which helped to change our world today. She was there for the Back to Africa Movement, Black voting rights, the Civil rights movement, and the Civil Right laws amendments in the 1960s, and in the 2000s. Mother Hill was able to vote for the first Black President and the First Woman of color Vice President. She was a true inspiration to us all. Mother Hill departed this life on November 9, 2022. She was preceded in death by her daughter Eleanor; two sisters, Jane Bentlow and Janet McDavis; niece, Annissie Johnson; two nephews, Allen Mitchell and George Mitchell. She leaves to mourn and cherish her memory, one son Walter; two grandchildren Walter Hill Jr., and Heather Hill; one niece, Annie Roane; two nephews Charles Mitchel and Alfred Mitchell; six great nieces Rhonda James, Marcella Harris, Regina Walker, Doreen Jenson, Diana Roane, and Mae Glass; one great nephew Fredderick Cole; Second-generation nephew Alger Russell, Jr., who stood by her until she departed home, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, family and friends.
