Obituary of Gail Marie Johnson

Loved by all who knew her, Gail Marie Johnson, daughter of the late John and Rose Davis, was born October 10, 1955. She departed this life on January 11, 2022 due to a short illness. Gail was born in Kinston, North Carolina. In 1963, at the age of 8 years old, her family moved to Baltimore, Maryland. She received her formal education in Kinston, North Carolina and Baltimore, Maryland public school systems. Gail accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at a very young age. As a child, Gail aspired to be an Opera Singer. All who knew her, knew she loved music and loved to sing. And Sing She Could! Her beautiful voice moved people in a way that made her memorable. She also had a unique gift of hitting two plates together and making them sound as if they were a tambourine. She loved her family and would do anything for them! To be a part of Gail's life was a blessing. Whenever someone was in need, she was there. Friends of the family would always speak of how embracing and caring she was. She became a second mother to many of her children's friends. On August 30, 2003, Gail was united in holy matrimony to the late Henry Jefferson Johnson. As a couple, they shared a happy life raising their children and grandchildren. They were together for over 33 years. Gail started her career in Social Work as a temp worker. After a few short months, Gail worked her way up from an Aide to a Clerk Typist for the Baltimore City Department of Social Service- Maryland Department of Human Services. She held this career for more than 20 years where she retired in 2018 to take care of her husband until his death. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Rose Davis; and two brothers, John Jr. and Thurston Davis; and two sisters Beverly and Janice Davis. She leaves to cherish her memory: 5 sons, Daryl Long, Ernest Long, Anthony Long, James Pittman Jr, spouse Halima Pittman, and Joshua Pittman, spouse Tanielle Pittman; 2 daughters, Terry Long and Teela Brown, spouse Michael Brown; 16 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; 5 sisters, Pastor Linda Carroll, Patricia Thomas, Prophetess Judie Hall, Joan Davis, and Sandra Davis; 1 sister-in-law, and 1 brother- in-law. She will be truly missed by a host of nieces and nephews, extended family, many friends and coworkers.
