Obituary of Yvonne C. Tate

Overseer Yvonne C. Tate in Baltimore, MD. to the late Walter Thomas, Sr. and Clorice G. James Rooks. Her faith in God began at an early age, baptized in the Catholic Church and given the name of "Mary." Yvonne was educated in Baltimore City Public Schools; soon after she married Charles Morrell, Sr., out of this union they had one daughter, Kimberly Joann Morrell; later adopting her daughter Patricia Jones, who proceeded her in death. In 1968, as the Youth Director for Calvery Baptist Church on Garrison Blvd., she founded a Girl Scout of America Troop and served as Sr. Leader and Northwest Baltimore Regional Director for many years. During that time she was also inducted as a member of the Order of the Eastern Stars - Hiram, furthering her community work and dedication to the advancement of the communities of Baltimore. Circa 1965 she joined the food and nutrition services staff at Baltimore City Public Schools serving and supervising at various schools until she retired in 2002. It was impossible to know Overseer Tate and not know the Lord also; all who loved her had no question about her love for God and committment to the church. In 1976, she joined St. John's Apostolic Holiness Church, Inc. ministerial staff as an ordained evangelist, later marrying the founding Bishop, Willie L. Tate in 1985, becoming asst. pastor until his death in 2001. In the summer of 2002 she was was ordained as pastor and in 2013, under the leadership of Apostle Charmaine Hollis of God's House of Glory Haven of Peace in Chester, PA. she became the overseer of Apostolic Ministries International, Inc., serving in that role until her passing. Ministry work and her church family became her life's mission and purpose in her latter years, putting on her "traveling shoes," and assisting churches and ministries between Pennsylvania and Maryland. She leaves to honor and remember her legacy Kimberly J. Morrell, daughter, Gerrod A. M. Williamson, grandson, siblings Walter Thomas, Jr. and loving wife Dorothy, Lloyd Thomas and loving wife Michele, the Late Joyce J. Thomas, the Late Vaughn Thomas, and Mark E. Heath of Bowie, MD, Step-Brother Larry Heath, Aunt, Gloria M. Harris of Atlanta, GA., cousins Evelyn Bunny Wiley, and Glorious Ashe. God-daughter Janelle D. Harris, Daughter-in-Christ Charmaine Hollis and loving husband Carl Hollis of Chester, PA., God-granddaughter Aniyah R. White of Chester, PA., and a host of beloved family and friends. As we reflect on memories of her, we foundly can hear her reciting Proverbs 3: 5-6, "trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto your own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy path."
